Default Nicci's journey
Hi im new here and due to start the atkins diet this monday coming 15/06/09. Im technically doing the fat fast which is featured briefly in the atkins book but is a lot stricter and there is practically no variety on the food. Im doing this version in order to lose weight as fast as possible as i have a couple of medical conditions which make it harder for me to lose weight the more conventional way (underactive thyroid and polycystic ovary syndrome) and that i need to get my weight down for (polycystic kidney disease). If anyone else is due to start the diet or has just started and would like a buddy, just private message me or reply to this thread as i know i won't be able to do this without the help of others. I hope i dont sound horrible saying this but please only contact me if you are serious about sticking to this as i have had people let me down before and i really need the support. The reason for needing the support other than my already mentioned medical conditions is that ive suffered from depression my whole life and i am also a binge eater (battling this with the help of overeaters anonymous group i attend) and really need to take my life back. In the past eighteen months ive become a shadow of my former self and my life revolves around food (how sad!). Ive put on 5 stone in the space of 12 months last year and although ive now lost just over a stone of it through healthy eating its took a while which is why im turning to this diet. Im going to be 23 in november and am hoping to turn my life around by this time and to have beat my weight troubles, binge eating and to have my depression under control. Anyone on atkins who would like to buddy up (if i havent scared you off ) just let me know. I know we can do this together!

My stats are:
im 22,
5 foot 4 (and a half - very important haha)
highest weight: 13 stone 10 pound
lowest weight: 8 stone 12
current weight: around 12 stone 7 (will submit my actual weight when i start on monday!)
Goal weight: 8 stone 12

I dont want to be a skinny minny, just healthy and happy (and being able to wear nice clothes instead of the same ugly coat all throughout the year would be fantastic)

I'm starting again tomorrow (Sunday) after not having done Atkins for years.
Maybe we could be buddies....
I'm alot older than you (48) and have to lose alot of weight but right now I'm just committing to get through 2 weeks of induction. Then we'll see.
I'm a bit afraid that if I stick to 20 carbs a day that I'll get fed up and chuck the diet.

Hi hun im chuffed ive got a reply . I know we can do this! i did the atkins a few weeks back for a week and i lost 9.5 pounds so i know it works if you stick to it. The only reason i came off the diet was because i went on the cambridge diet where you just have cambridge sachets, but it was too extreme a diet as it was only 415 cals a day (i wish i had just stayed on atkins at the time). I will PM you my email so you can reach me whether you are online here or not.

Hi there and welcome.

I'd encourage you to do the proper induction by the rules first. You may find you are not as resistant as you imagine. If you've lost weight by simply healthy eating already, you are not resistant to weight loss at all.

This WOE works totally differently to a lot of other plans. On induction, most people lose weight and are able to eat healthily too. It will change the way your body handles food and is not comparable to cambridge or low fat diets.

Its up to you, but the fat fast is an absolutely last resort.

Are you in the UK? You talk of stones for your weight. I'm in Bucks if you are.

Good luck we are here to support you.

hi spirit,

Thanks for the advice, its exactly the advice i would give someone else but im still going ahead witht the fat fast. Its took me 6 months to lose a stone and 4 pounds the healthy way and i really need to get this weight off. The reason im being so strict as well as my medical conditions is that with too much choice like on the normal atkins i will end up bingeing as i am a really bad binge eater and the fat fast is very limited to what you can have so feels like there is more structure for me. My goal weight is 8 stone 12 pound but i will be happy when i get to 10 stone (psychological more than anything) and will hopefully be a little more prepared mentally to increase my choices and follow the normal atkins until i reach my goal.

Yes im in the uk, im from sunderland (in the north east) but live in a town next to it called south shields.

hi guys i was supposed to start the fat fast diet yesterday but had a family emergency on sunday night and spent the night and most of yesterday at the hospital/ running errands to get bits and pieces for the hospital, so wasnt really the best time to start. Ive had a good nights sleep last night and im raring to go this morning so to speak lol. Theres not a hint of coffee in sight!

The hardest thing for me the next few days won't be carb withdrawal it will be caffeine withdrawal! I have about 10 cans of pepsi max everyday and at least 5 coffees.

I weighed myself this morning and my official start weight is 175lb. Hopefully after this week i will never see that number again.

Ps i have wrote a different subject in the line in the hope of changing my blogs name but im not sure if this will actually end up with my other post which are under 'atkins diet buddy needed'???

hey Nicci

i'm with spirit in advising to just do the induction...it is quite structured, and 175 isn't too high a start weight (although i know it feels that way to you!!! )

also you lost 9.5 pounds last time, so you aren't resistant....
but anyway, if you're doing the fat fast...jsut do it for a few weeks eh? induction alone will squash those cravings, so i imagine the fat fast will squash them and drive them out the door! one of the main parts of atkins is learning what foods you can eat, to maintain your weight and keep cravings away...

also you do need that fibre and those nutrients that are in veggies....

i'm sticking at 20-25 net carbs a day, and i'm at 170, so we are in a similar boat - and we're all here for you, fat-fast or no fat-fast

keep us posted with questions and your progress!

Hi everyone,

thanks for all the support! Batyaboo i started yesterday and im doing really well so far. The only problem is the voice in my head telling me that i cant do this/lose weight so i may aswell eat bad and im constantly fighting against it. I havent been hungry at all though which is a revelation. Ive been having 5 meals a day as suggested in the book of 200 calories each to keep my metabolism going and levels stable. Its really helping that i have no other choice of food. Im basically having macadamia nuts and brie for each meal and thats it. Im also having 4 pints of water a day. Im hoping to join the gym on friday as its payday but im not positive i should be doing any strenuous exercise just yet, im just going to see what my energy levels are like on friday before i make a decision. Im going to post my weighloss each week so my next weigh in will be tuesday. Im trying to only do it weekly as i tend to get a bit obsessed with it and it can set my mood for the day and if its a bad weight then it can get me down and i won't even leave the house so im just going to have to wait lol.

Hope everyones having a good day.
Hows things gone with you today Batyaboo?

I'm good.
I had eggs for breakfast
Tuna for lunch + lettuce and pepper + 1 triangle cheese
Chicken breast + lettuce and celery and pepper (tiny amounts) for dinner.
Then I overdid it on baked broccoli.
I think it's a hoot that broccoli is a cheat.

I hope my body didn't go out of ketosis (if it ever went in...)

Hangin' in.

I have PCOS as well, and when I stuck to the rules on Atkins 5 years ago it worked VERY well for me... I lost 70lbs, but I had (still have) a lot more to loose than you!!!

Hi guys im still around, just having a few problems atm. My partner lost his job this week due to the credit crunch and a simple surgery on a member of my family has had complications so its beena stressful time to say the least!

On the plus side i weighed in on tuesday and have lost 13 pound in 7 days- i can't believe it i never in a million years thought i would lose that much in a week. I feel like ive lost a bit more since my weigh in but im determined to stick to my weekly weigh ins. The funny thing is i don't feel like ive lost that much but i suppose my brain might take a little longer to catch up.

Batyaboo hows thing going with you? Remember even if im not posting on here you can contact me via email and i will reply asap.
