When you need info on the Atkins Diet, go to the source.
Cheese is measure by the ounce and is limited. Cream is measured by the liquid ounce and is limited. Net grams is simply total grams carbohydrate minus fiber grams. Total - fiber = net. If you live in Europe, that's already been done for you on any packaging. Carrots are high in carbs and are not added back until Phase 4, Maintenance. Milk is not allowed, either. Here's a link to the Induction Foods list. It tells you what you can eat. If it's not on the list (like strawberries) you can't have it. http://www.atkins.com/Program/Phase1...thisPhase.aspx Read this to learn how to "do Induction right". http://www.atkins.com/Program/Phase1...tionRight.aspx Here are some other "have to know" tips for Induction. http://www.atkins.com/Program/Phase1...ThisPhase.aspx I'd also like to suggest you do the "Learn Atkins" on that site. The more you know, the better you will do and less time you will waste relying on bad information. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! Welcome to our forum, Tril |

Yes it takes a few days to get into it and you will have cravings but stick it out they go after 3-4 days and you will not be hungry.
Things you should not be having on Induction from your list; Milk (especially semi skimmed!), Strawberries, cheese, tomatoes, carrots, mayonnaise (unless home made - read the label, it has sugar in it). So good try so far but it's not as simple as you think! It gets easier after induction but if you want to kick start your metabolism you have to do this right. As Tril says, you need the Atkins book or website for your information, if you just try it your own way it is unlikely to work. You would be surprised how many things have carbs in! If you are eating a lot of fried food be careful what you fry in - what are you using? |

"cheese, tomatoes, mayonnaise"
Actually, you CAN have these. From the Induction Foods list: "Keep in mind that cheese does contain carbs, about 1 gram per once. You may have about 3 to 4 ounces of cheese per day. An ounce is about the size of an individually wrapped slice of American cheese. Cheese including: Type... Serving Size... Net Carbs • Blue cheeses 1 oz, 0.7 • Cheddar ½ cup, 0.0 • Cow, sheep and goat 1 oz, 0.3 • Cream cheese 1 oz, 0.8 • Feta 1 oz, 1.2 • Gouda 1 oz, 0.6 • Mozzarella 1 oz, 0.6 • Parmesan 1 tbs, 0.2 • Swiss 1 oz, 1.0" "Tomato 1 raw, 4.3 net grams" "Fats and Oils – No net carbs here, but keep in mind the serving size is approximately 1 tablespoon. * Mayonnaise – make sure there is no added sugar" There are some good quality mayonnaises out there... look for one without sugar (I think Trader Joe is one brand without sugar added). If you can't find one without sugar, buy one with sugar listed at the end of the ingredient list (4th or more). The label will probably say "0 carbs" because there is less than 1g carb per serving. That doesn't mean the mayo is carb free... so be conservative when serving yourself commercial mayonnaise. Atkins says one TBS is a serving. The fraction of a carb in one tablespoon won't hinder your weight loss. But if you're scooping it out with a large spoon (think "dollop"), it could be an issue. One TBS is NOT a lot of mayonnaise. If you have a blender or immersion blender, it's pretty easy to make it yourself. I do this when I can't find a mayonnaise made without soybean oil. |

American cheese... it's not really cheese. It's a processed cheese product and often called a "deli cheese". It also has 2g carb per slice!! I think Atkins used it as a comparison for serving size since it's used so much here in the US. This is what it looks like...
http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...PJCmUMrD2Ab3hg My recipe for mayonnaise: Start with room temperature ingredients. VERY important. Warm the bowl you make it in if it feels cold to the touch. 2 egg yolks (use pasteurized eggs or egg product if you don't eat raw eggs) 1 cup oil (I use canola and/or very light olive oil... half and half is good) 3 teaspoons vinegar or lemon juice (I like plain unseasoned rice wine vinegar) 1/4 tsp salt pinch dry ground mustard white pepper if you want I make it in a mason jar with an immersion blender. Egg yolks first... blend a minute or two. Add salt, dry mustard, pepper if you're using it and vinegar. Blend again. Then, with the blender going, VERY slowly add the oil... a few drops to start, then a few more. Once the emulsion process starts you can add the rest of the oil in a slow drizzle. I use a threaded plastic cover on the jar. Very easy... and no bowl to clean! This will keep a couple of weeks in the fridge. But I guarantee... it won't last that long. ![]() |
