Default Hello, starting over
Hello, I have been on this forum a while ago.. lost 20 lbs and gained 7 back, then recently gained 10 more lbs. I got remarried..and happy and my new husband had lost 25 with atkins and did not have to take his blood pressure meds anymore. I am 51 and frustrated. I admit to cheating alot. But... since I was a young teen.. looking at carbs literally added weight.. each day .. up a pound or two... my life has been up and down the same 15 lbs. so this is not menopause, which I may have started.. but it is me. Having one small bowl of pasta.. puts on 2 lbs and it does NOT come off when I resort back to atkins... same with ice cream. Yes,,, I know I have cheated. but it does not come off.. it slowly adds to my weight. SO... here I am back to induction and VERY into watching the carbs. Thanks, Lia I am at 5'2 and now at 132 lbs from 115 but didn't mind being between 120 to 125 lbs.!!

I was on, several years ago, and then came off (and regained). Looking back, the coming off completely related to a feeling of "a little here and a little there shouldn't make that much of a difference" until I was pretty much back to where I started.

(it also didn't help that I went to a registered dietician, who swore up and down that I wasn't getting enough carbs and that in order to lose I must increase them)

This time around, I'm starting to get it more. If Induction is done properly, cravings and hunger should go away (and they have for me). But I'm also realizing there is pretty much zero tolerance for cheating.

I'm sure others will chime in, but my feeling is that you're either going "all in" or not. There is no half-way.

Guy... I agree with you. It's all or nothing. Unlike counting calories, if you eat too many carbs in one day you'll kick yourself out of ketosis... and back into burning glucose... and all those cravings/hunger/insulin responses will come back like a tidal wave. Counting calories... eating low fat... a few extra calories in one day just slows your loss and makes you a little less hungry that day. For US, it's whole different ballgame. You can't "fudge" low carb the way you can low fat or low calorie. You can't have an "off" day and not suffer the consequences. There's no such thing as just this one piece of cake and I'll go right back on my diet... it causes a chemical shift in your body that can take 3 to 4 days to recover from. And if you DON'T recover from it... that can easily lead to gaining a LOT of weight coming back. Just ask me... 41# (yes, you read that right) later I'm having to start all over. It began with a vacation that I didn't deal with when I got home (we bought a house 3 days after I returned and then I moved - again - and well, I just didn't put me first for months).

All that to say... I agree with you! LOL
