So as I've mentioned I have bronchitis or a lung infection. I'm very nervous now, because websites I've read have said that meat is the worst thing to eat when you have bronchitis, and that you should drink nothing but orange juice and water, with some chicken broth and so forth. I've read a lot of other "remedies" and so forth, and one site said antibiotics can't help(yet the last 5 times I've had it, the doctors have put me on antibiotics). So I know you can't trust all you read.
Has anyone here had bronchitis while on Atkins? Can anyone tell me if I shouldn't be on this while I have it? I'm really depressed and nervous from being sick, and very unhappy. I don't have insurance, had to pay my own medical bills, and have been out of work for a week. I hope I'll be better Monday, or at least well enough to go in, and I'd hate to think that meat/dairy/etc will make it worse. |

I don't know if fruits and juices will make me feel better, it's just what I read. I don't have a fever but get out of breath really badly if I walk, like even across the hall makes me breathe heavy.
I think I will have to go back to work on Monday, even if I'm not feeling better. The doctor is costing me a lot of money. If having a juice diet all weekend will make me better come Monday, I'd do it. But I don't know. I'm really confused and nervous about this now. Haven't had a cigarette since Friday though, if that means anything. Done with that for good. |

The only thing I've read is to avoid dairy if you have any mucus issues (stuffy nose, post nasal drip, congestion in head and chest). Dairy increases mucus production. Meat? Never heard not to have that when sick. Rest, lots of liquids... and maybe something like Robitussin DM (think that's the one) that relieve chest congession. You want to dislodge any congestion and cough it up before that bronchitis turns into pneumonia.
Here are the sign of pneumonia... "What are pneumonia symptoms and signs? Most people who develop pneumonia initially have symptoms of a cold which are then followed by a high fever (sometimes as high as 104 degrees Fahrenheit), shaking chills, and a cough with sputum production. The sputum is usually discolored and sometimes bloody. People with pneumonia may become short of breath. The only pain fibers in the lung are on the surface of the lung, in the area known as the pleura. Chest pain may develop if the outer pleural aspects of the lung are involved. This pain is usually sharp and worsens when taking a deep breath, known as pleuritic pain. In other cases of pneumonia, there can be a slow onset of symptoms. A worsening cough, headaches, and muscle aches may be the only symptoms. In some people with pneumonia, coughing is not a major symptom because the infection is located in areas of the lung away from the larger airways. At times, the individual's skin color may change and become dusky or purplish (a condition known as "cyanosis") due to their blood being poorly oxygenated." Tril |

The doctor has me on antibiotics and an expectorant of some type. I spoke to someone else who's dad is a doctor and apparently diet isn't a big issue here.
Still, I'm trying to stick with soups with a lot of high vitamin vegetables and vegetables that help relieve congestion like onion, garlic, peppers, broccoli, and spinach. As for rest - this one crazy site said to exercise. Yeah, I see that happening when walking to the bathroom winds me! |
