Default Going into hospital tonight
I had a phone call this afternoon that the hospital had a cancellation and if I could get to the ward by 8pm, I could have my new hip tomorrow. I'm lucky that I've had all the bloods done and I'm OK blood levels wise. So I'll be off the computer for a while but will check in when I get back. Thank goodness I've lost over 15 lbs!

Will have a chat with the dietician (who is the daughter of an old friend of mine) and see what sort of post op diet we can come up with.

To be honest, it is very different being retired and on this side of the bedpan!
Please don't think I've forgotten you all.

Good luck. Everybody I know who've had hip replacement are really happy about the results. I have arthritis in my left hip and wish I could do this.

High protein is great for surgical recovery. Organ meats like chicken livers are super. I've had a lot of surgeries and I've found that Arginine and Orthinine supplements speed recovery. Also it's great that you know the hospital dietician most are not high protein friendly and that's what you need to recover quickly.

Hi,
My son was just diagnosed with type I. He is on low carb diet, with almost no carbs for dinner. His sugar is pretty stable, but before he goes to bed it creeps to 200 or so. Any advise.

Hi Irene,

You didn't mention your son's age, but my advice would be for you or your son to keep a careful diary of everything he eats and drinks, and also to record his blood sugars religiously and then bring both the food diary and blood sugar records to every medical appointment. The doctor and dietician will need to work together to formulate the best diet and medications. It can take some time to work out the best plan, but if he follows it carefully, his diabetes can be well managed.

Best wishes,
Karen
