Default light headed, kind of dizzy
Hi all,

Thought I would put this out there. Twice in the last week I have been light headed, almost like I'm drunk, but obviously not.

Even a little wobbly at the knees. Now this scared the hell out of me as last Saturday I was driving when it happened and then today, when I was walking.

Not sure what to do, I am drinking enough water and am eating enough carbs. Any one any suggestions how to stop it ?

Rgds

Make sure you're getting enough minerals... your electrolytes may be off.

Hi,

Not taking anything, no vitimains or minerals. I take it then I should be ? I'll go get some today because I am really tired this week and struggling to excercise, which I love doing.

How do you know if your electrolytes are off ?

do a rough calculation of your potassium levels and your salt intake.

Those are your two "electrolytes"

Sodium and Potassium interact with each other to send the electrical signals between your cells. Most people point to potassium but we're supposed to get about 2,000 to 4,000 mg a day, depending, and the supplements over the counter are 90mg lol.

As a side note, the old atkins shakes had 650mg potassium, the new ones have 280. I noticed a difference and started eating more chicken and such to make up the difference.

For me its usually salt. I sweat too much salt away which can have the same effect, so when I get home I just say to hell with it and pour rock sea salt into my hand and then eat it. I'm usually so deprived on salts that it actually tastes good.

I dont recommend that but don't neglect your salts. It's not lack of potassium or lack of salts that gets you feeling funky, its them out of balance with each other.

Magneseum and calcium are two other minerals that can play a part in feeling dizzy.

Here's what you need to know about magnesium: http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/magnesium.asp

And calcium:

This is a good site for supplement information. It's the NIH Office of Dietary Supplements.

They're really hesitant to recommend supplementing for minerals. They suggest getting them from your foods or drinking mineral rich water. I have well water that's very hard... I get plenty of minerals that way.

You know what always gets me? The foods that offer you 100 percent of your values.

Like special K and raisin bran.

Umm.... wtf. Explain to me why its necessarily a perfect idea to be hitting 100 percent of your daily recommended values of something by 7:15 AM?

Yet somehow they have pulled it off for years as a brilliant marketing scheme.

You know,

That would make sense. I hate salt. I don't put it in anything. I know it is in processed food to beat the band, but I personally avoid it.

Now that I am doing the atkins, it would make sense I'm getting the wobbles and I'm not eating processed and not getting salt.

I'll go get a supplement today.

You guys
