Hi there, i'm a 30 year old married woman from country Queensland in Australia. I have decided to give Atkins a go for the 2nd time tomorrow. I have tried it before and although i didn't last - it's probably the diet that i have lasted the longest on ever!
I have a husband who doesn't have to watch his weight and a 1 year old that consumes my time. I also work part time as an Administration officer. So life is pretty busy. I just can't seem to get my weight back down to where i was before having my son. I currently weigh 84kgs, which is 185pounds. I am short also so i need to lose 20pounds to be my healthy weight. But i'd be happy to be 75kgs again (165 pounds) as i was happy at that weight and can't remember being less than that anyway! I live in a rural area - there are no support groups, no weight watchers or anything like that and i really struggle doing this on my own. Hubby is no help - he is away usually half the week for work. I'd love to find a buddy and get involved with this forum and hopefully stay motivated this time. So hi to everybody and hope to chat to you soon. |

For some reason, I think a number of non-carb fans (aka civilians) are married to like carb-nuts like us. (My hubby and I fit that pattern) I've learned that contemplating what my husband can eat without problems is just another way for me to obsess with food. So I try to take him out of the equation. I figure it's just an accident of genetics and really not relevant to my WOE. After all, my DH's vision is rapidly getting worse while, at 50, I've still got (knock wood) 20/20 eyesight.
Don't worry about what abilities others have that you don't...You are doing here what you need to take care of you and that's very important. With a part-time job and part-time single parenthood of a toddler, it doesn't sound like you get much "me" time. Good luck and write often. And besides... you and I aren't short...we're height challenged! ![]() ![]() |

Hello and welcome, Kelly! I can understand the living in a rural area and having a dh who has never had a weight problem VERY well! Message boards like this one can be a lifeline of support, so I'm quite happy you found us. You know, about three years ago, on a similar message board, I met someone who lives 3 miles from me and now we're walking buddies... you just never know! I hope you feel comfortable here.... it's quite friendly.
![]() Do you have the book?? If not, be sure to print off the Induction foods list and keep it handy. Any questions... just ask! Another excellent source of information is the FAQ section on the index. I've learned more by reading those than anywhere else (read ALL of them lol). Good luck, hang in there... oh and congrats on the new baby! ![]() Tril |

Yes you can certainly get into this and be successful at losing weight. You just need to get into it and get a routine. The first few days are always the hardest aren't they? Keep yourself busy so you don't think about food too much (you sound pretty busy anyway). The first few days of a diet, I always find myself obsessing over food and when I will next be able to eat. That's the great thing about Atkins - you don't have to deny yourself and as long as you are relatively sensible, you can eat whenever you get hungry. Even better is the fact that your appetite will diminish. I can't believe how little appetite i have some days. I have to force myself to eat a meal! Very unusual for me!
