I join e-dubble in recommending mashed cauliflower. It truly does taste like mashed potatoes. Gravy is a no-no but you can top them with bacon bits and cheese and then brown them in the oven like twice baked potatoes. Delicious!

Default Can I eat Smash potato?
Hi,

I'm new here and I'm really sorry for asking this question but is it OK to have that Smash potato, you know the kind I mean? Freeze dried stuff. Not keen on it myself but my boyfriend wants to know, also I saw gravy mentioned as being one to watch because of hidden carbs.
Will he be allowed these things as long as he doesn't go over his daily allowance of carbs?

We're doing this together but I think he's going to find it really difficult to do and I want to support him as much as possible.

Many thanks for any help...

Kind regards, Greysquirrel.

Hello and welcome to the forum,
You are not allowed any potatoes. Please check the kinds of food allowed on Induction. Potatoes are allowed in OWL (starchy vegetables).
Good luck in your journey and keep us posted.

Thank you so much for your reply mneemnee, I didn't think you could have it but I just had to ask. Not sure my boyfriend would have believed me otherwise...LOL.. It looks like I'm going to have to do all the reading.

Many thanks again mneemnee

Kind regards. Greysquirrel.

Not at all.
Just keep on track and one day you will be able to have it. I'm in OWL and I have potato chips every now and then.
If you need any help we are all here for you.

Welcome.
About gravy: gravy is usually made with flour which is a HUGE no no.
A good rule to remember is avoid white: sugar, potatoes, bread, flour.

Mashed Cauliflower (strange as it sounds) is an EXCELLENT alternative. With the right ratio of butter & cream you'll hardly tell the difference.
