this is the first of 5 links on yourube to their last bout:

There was an incident in which margaritos corner was caught tampering with his hand wraps prior to his bout with shane moseley a few yrs back; the hand wraps were found by the CSAC to contain sulfur and calcium which, when combined with oxygen, forms some sort of plaster. This incident resulted in a shadow of doubt which hangs now over all of Margarito's previous victories.

In thee last fight with between these two, cotto came up with accusations of margarito using plaster in his wraps, and he dude seems to be rather butthurt over loosing, thing is margarito swears up and down he did beat him fair and square.

At the time of the first incident, margarito denied any involvement in the plaster in his wraps, his trainer was the one that did his hand wraps.. he faced some sort of sanction and was not allowed to fight for some time.

he is making his comeback but as you can imagine he is often seen as a cheater... TBH i am personally on the fence on this, while i can see the point of not worrying so much about his hand wraps and letting his trainer do them, it is also hard to believe he had no idea this was going on...

FYI - the first 10 rounds of that fight was a boxing/stamina workshop for each fighter...
Clearly Cotto was the more form-mentality fighter whereas margarito simply kept his composure and pressure until the 11th round.
on the 11th round, two things were clear.

- Cotto couldn't handle more close quarters stands despite his quick and well aimed/landed shots
- Margarito was simply waiting... looking for the time to put him away. the dropped him twice and by the third and last time Cotto simply took and knee and gave up.

Dont get me wrong, Cotto put up a damn good showing, his combinations and moves were good, but Margarito simply had more stamina, a jaw that can take a beating and his power punches down the line were simply too much for the other guy to handle

There is a pre-interview they did the night of the juan manuel marquez and pacquiao fight and man, it was intense!
This fight is going to be a damn good fight!

As far as the rivalry, there has always been a deep seeded rivalry between puerto rican and mexican boxers- i remember my gramma (RIP) used to talk so much shit whenever a puerto rican fought vs a mexican fighter... shit got heated as hell on Saturday nights at her house lol

tokens sent your way Francis...

think he could have gone a few more rounds... ive seen other fighters go on on
worse eye injuries.

if there was such a high concern over his eye, then
in my mind, NY sports commission should not have lisenced him to
fight.

Margarito was sound, aware and looked fine except for the fucked
up eye lol
cotto was starting to show the effects of marg's
punches

had it gone the next two rounds things may have still ended up
the same way, or not... cotto wasnt running as much anymore and he was starting
to look worn.

someone said a possible fight with canelo could be next for
cotto... id love to see that one but canelo may be a little too green for it at
the moment in my opinion.

i really need to quit buying this shit tbh lol

Dang I'm glad I wasn't on here when you made this thread, because I would have bet every token to my name on Margarito.
