My dogs get nicknames almost as quickly as they get their names, and in time we even give them theme songs. Shader was turned into Shader Bader or Shady. Demon (full name Demon Eyes Fluffy) is normally called D, and her two year old daughter, Yepa, is called Yepa Poo. The theme song tends to come once we get to know their personalities a little better. My daughter goes around singing "Yepa Yepa Yepa Poo" to the rhythm of the Mickey Mouse Club House song.

We have so many nicknames! Honestly, they are a bit embarrassing to even admit to other people. One of our dogs, an Australian Shepherd named Bandit, probably has the worst of it. Since he is a pure-breed, he already has three technical names written on his papers. This has resulted in a series of amusing nicknamed such as:

- Banderas: This came from his pure-breed papers. Sometimes, we even call him Antonio!
- Bandito
- Banderbear: From The Edge Chronicles. He's black and white and reminds you of a panda, so we reverted his name into a different form of bear.
- Snuffleupagus: From Sesame Street. We call him this, because every time he rolls onto his back (which is often), he sneezes! We pronounce it more like "snuffle-wuffle-gus" than its original pronunciation.

I don't really think we have many. We do end up calling him "Puppy" a lot, even though he's 14 years old, lol. He just starts acting like such a young pup, so it's fitting. Which means sometimes I'll tell him to "hush puppy" and that ends up sounding like another nickname.

Hehe, it is kind of weird how natural it is to give your pet dog a nickname. My dog's name is Tinkerbell. We usually just call her Tink. Given, my version of nicknames is usually just a shorter version of a person's name. But... That's still a nickname, yeah?

One evening, as my partner was walking the dogs along the marina, there were a couple of slightly sozzled fellas, weaving and staggering their way down the road. They caught sight of Lily, and stopped mid weave, thinking that because she is a large girl, that she was going to try and eat them.

My partner was getting closer with the dogs, and they backed off a bit, but he told them not to worry, because big-un was 'a gentle dog'. One replied, that's not a dog, it's a BEAR. Ever since then, we've called her 'Lily-bear'. She responds to that name better than she does the one she was given. She gets really waggy tailed and happy.

When we first adopted her, she would stick her nose in absolutely EVERYTHING, so she got the moniker of 'snufflepig'.

As far as Sherlock is concerned, he's a little bit on the DIM side, so he is often (affectionately) called 'numbnuts'. He also likes to lay in a position where his faced gets mashed up, so we also called him 'squidge'.

No, we do not have any nicknames for our dog. Her name is Rogue and that's what we call her. Her name VERY much fits her as well. She rarely ever does what we tell her to do, lol.

LOL I thought I was the only one that did that! My three pups hardly even answer to their real names anymore but call their knicknames and they come running

Kotton - Kissy fur, waggy butt, princess, diva, pigeon (she has the worst pigeon toes I have ever seen!)

Koko - bully (she is a chihuahua that has the stance of a bulldog), coco butter, butter, Pita (pain in the ...) LOL

Kash - Darn It, Brute, chin (she plays with the chinchillas more than the dogs LOL)

It's odd my father usually calls our dog "Blackie" if its color black and "Whitie" if its white. Sometimes I just want to rename them something funnier like "Blobby" or "Momomo".

My last dog went by the name Katy as a nickname because her full name was so long. She was solid white with a brindle spot around her left eye. Her full name was "Katy the cleaning lady, she missed a spot."

It seems like everyone in the family has a different nickname for our two chihuahuas. Their names are Toby and Daisy but I think everyone decided on their own nicknames because we didn't get the opportunity to name them ourselves. We got the two from a family friend and they were already answering to the names given by the original owners so we couldn't change them.

Anyways, for Toby there's:
-BB
-Spazzmonkey - courtesy of my brother because Toby can get a bit over excited at times
-Obama - a friend calls him that because he was born on the day Obama was elected for president
And for Daisy there's:
-CC
-Lazy - she likes to lay around and do nothing a lot
-Chubby - she can get really round when she eats a lot
-Giant Rat - her coat is a grayish tint and she likes to lurk around scrounging for scraps of food

My german shepherd is called Skye, we used to call her Skye-puppy when she was little, which we shortened to Skuppy for some reason and still call her that sometimes. My border collie x is called Wyatt and we call him Widget sometimes, I don't know why!

Default Do you have a lot of nicknames for your dog?
I know that in my family we have so many that we don't even use my dog's real name, Charlie, that much. We call him puppy, puppa, Charlie Bear, Charma, Bubbles, Juice, Sausage, Beggar, and so on and so forth. Half of those nicknames I have no idea where they came from either.

So what random nicknames do you use for your dog?

LOL! Yes! That is funny you mention it. I thought we were the only one that had all kinds of crazy nicknames for my pup. Her name is Zoey but she has like a dozen nicknames. She is a really hyper dog and has a lot of energy. We call her Zotes, Zotes Nut, The Nutty Professor, Zotes it of the Notes it. LOL. so funny! Like you, I do not even know where some of the nicknames came from.
