That's what it looks like to me. A stick with a piece of leather or something on it. I don't know anything about training a protection dog but I do know that the dog in the video doesn't look motivated to do much of anything.

This is the trainer
Walter Ward Dog Training

Owner's words
Shy Dogg with her first trainer. Very very poor decision on my part. Her foundation work is totally HACK and I am no professional dog trainer but after seeing this and doing research I now know............ Yeah hindsight is 20/20!!! I am not a dog trainer by any means and I put my trust into him to help build confidence in my scared rescue pitbull. Shortly after this I stopped training with him and met up with another trainer that "freed" her up more and was more playing with her rather than making her more spooked. She is a great dog and always has been, I just took the wrong road for a bit in the training process............

That is NOT how you train protection work AT ALL.

That is abuse and tormenting a fearful dog, and the word should be spread about this guy so that NO ONE takes their dogs to him.

What an abuse??? The dog's trainer must be good unlike this guy! Pitbulls needs protection and not to be trained or treated harshly. I felt sad

Do you know anything about pp. Alot of dogs have started that way. The dog was just shit and makes it look worse. Shit dogs need shit methods
Wow- do u pp train? That is a stick in his hand. Which is used for pp training! And a shy fearful dog has no right being trained for pp ! It's abuse! If a dog does not have protective instincts to protect it should never be forced to behave this way. EVER!! That poor pit will never be right after that. Hence pits are not guard dogs and should not be trained for pp! Wait! I take that back. Not all pits are protective I've seen some that are and do very well! U never work a shy or fearful dog pp. that dog can never be trusted because his true spirit is not to protect! Unfortunately nothing legal u can do and the best u can do is spread the word like wild fire so no one uses this guy ! I will post a video from one of my PP classes! The right way to start that training! Cause that sure as hell isn't the way! Ugh breaks my heart to see this shit !

This is my last reply cause i don't really care. the video you showed is a dog that is advanced in bite work. The american bulldog calmed down the min the man came out the suit. that tells me these are more sport dogs than real pp dogs. Meaning they have no civil work.

I never said it was right or wrong i don't care. I was just letting you know what was going on in the video. Why is nobody blaming the owner of the dog for trying to get that type of dog pp trained. that was the first of 5 sessions. I know for a fact walter makes everyone do this bullshit ass course he thinks is the shit for ob. but the guy didn't post that or the other 5 sessions and he only posted 30s of one. their is a reason for this.
really? ok here is your civilian video.. Dont challenge something you know nothing about when i am showing living proof through a video .. ok so here is your civilian work..

shit dogs as you call it... disgusting imo are fearful shy dogs that have no business being PP trained.. apparently the dog hasnt been conditioned on his own goddamn fears yet and now your going to take him and agitate him with a fucking stick??? lets not call the dog "Shit" its more like the trainer in the video is "Shit"... this is abuse and cruelty... and im not one to call anyone anything everyone entitled to an opinion but there are professionals and then there are "WANNABES" there are no shit dogs in this world.. every dog is unique and has its own personality as we do.. So are we shit if we are shy? really???? SMFH

there is no american bull dog in that video, it's a dogo argentino, and i've seen these dogs before, and they are by far some of the most impressive protection dogs i've seen.

The owner of the dog is not a girl. The guy went to walter to train in personal protection. As seen in the video the dog has no drive and basically is a shit dog.

With the approach he was try to see if the dog would work in defense. Poking with the padded stick does not hurt the dog just irritates the hell out if it. Its called a extension of your hand. Yes he used the whip but it was harsh. It lasted 30 second. Walt seen the dog still wouldnt defense up so he stopped. This video was posted due to a personal beef not because the guy thought his dog was being abused

if i was to guess the dog was extremely docile and he was trying to work his drive. the clip is way too short and without it being longer of without proper wordings it may seem like that to someone. IDK just my guess

If you didn't care you wouldn't have posted to begin with.

If you listen to the video the Dogo Argentino is a beginner dog, still in the targeting stage. The Rotti is more advanced, which his excitement can help the Dogo as well. Buuut that's not the main issue. The main issue is that you should never do something like that with a shy dog. You evaluate them before you put your hands on them, any proper PP trainer could see that the dog is not fit for it. All he's doing is pushing the dog over the limits and teaching it that nipping will make the bad things go away. Aka lawsuit, as said above.

It looks like you were correct that it's a guy, went back and checked the OP on FB.

In PP they should be looking for confident dogs with natural protective instincts, I'm not seeing any of that in this dog. He's just freaked out, and wants it to stop. Any idiot can see that.

Also, posting a obedience video shows me nothing about his PP work.

The gal went to him to work with his shy dog, the person who owns the dog posted about it in a group to warn others of the guy.

Basically, I think he's thinking "I'll make the dog react aggressively towards me, put it on command, and make him confident that way." >_< Totally abuse if you ask me

@chris - just wow.

back OT I couldn't sit and watch that person poke or pop that dog and watch the dog turn and try and attack him. It looks like a problem waiting to happen.
