Here you won't find bleeding hearts and your typical dog owner. It is important to recognize traits of the breed that are both positive and 'negative' so you can provide a safe environment. If you have a rat terrier, you won't expose him to your pet mice, will you? If you have a pet boa, you won't let a rabbit play with him (unless its his dinner). Similarly, if you have dogs that have a propensity for dog aggression, then you will be careful to not put him in a bad situation. I myself have two, and they get along and play, but I have to supervise them. When they first met, any little thing could start a fight, but I'm lucky that my first dog is non-confrontational. However, when he gets fed up of the other dog's rudeness he will turn it on.
It is much better now, they play, sleep together, walk together but they are not left alone. It would be irresponsible to do that even if they look like goofy fur balls when they roll around on the grass. Being a pit bull owner has taught me more about dogs than I would have learned if I had any other breed. Mostly because I learned them here and not in some 'bleeding heart' forum where people think dogs are some kind of furry angels that will never do any harm. |
