Funny some are mentioning that their females are smarter (or SEEM smarter, anyway). Wilson is by far my most intelligent dog.. Piper isn't dumb, but she's not near as smart as Wilson. Sako is still a young, intact boy, so we won't judge him yet

Boys all the way. Do not like female dogs. We have 2, but not really my choice. But 6 boys outnumber them! I am too much of a bitch myself to have any competition in the house!

Seriously I like a dog/bitch combo. My bitch hears EVERYTHING and reacts and alerts my dog. The females seem to be more affectionate as well.

I have always liked females more. Boys take too long to pee. Although now I seem to be acquiring just as many males as females for some odd reason. Go figure. lol

Bitches easily. I don't know why but every bitch I've owned has listened easier though they can be hard headed on when they obey.

My males have ALWAYS pushed the limits more, been less attentive to training, and have become more independent than the girls have.

Example, squirrel runs by: Brina if told stay and leave it be would maybe stand up and whine about not being allowed to chase. MAYBE take a step towards it.
My old male would have listened til the squirrel next moved then taken off after it like you had lit a fire under his ass lol.

So I generally choose female over male, but that doesn't mean I'll pass up owning a good male either.

I just like their work ethic better. I train better with girls. Our minds are just more alike. There are always exceptions, but generally I find girls think things through better and are generally more logical.

I typically don't enjoy sucky dogs either, and boys IME, tend to be more cuddly and huggable, feelings get hurt that type of thing. Bitches have that edge that I quite enjoy working with.

I think your sex matters too. I think dogs tend to be suckier with women handlers, and bitches are suckier with men. At least that's always how it worked in this household!

I prefer bitches if I were to pick. My females are kind of like roommates. But ALL of the boy dogs that have fallen into my life (and all have been pretty durp-y) have been like little, pain in the ass, grade school boyfriends!
My females can sit across the room from me, my boys have to be right on top of me. My females can let me go to the bathroom by myself. The boys have to try and follow me or sit right outside the closed door.
If I were to PICK out a pup, I would go bitch. But I have loved all my boy dogs very much...
And all have been neutered so no real junk problems to speak of


As I write this Shai Shai(female) is sleeping on the couch. But Jay and Larry are on my lap/keyboard.

Ha, my female Kelpie x didn't get the memo that females aren't meant to be clingy. She's more attached to my hip then my male! Serenity is always the first to cuddle me, to lay beside me when I relax, to sit next to me when I'm sitting down, to follow me around and stay close and so forth. Sunny does cuddle/seek attention but she's more at my him then he ever has been.

However I'd take either gender, but if I had to choose I'd pick a male.

It's not so much about who is smarter, because both my male and female are smart. It's mainly all of Mako's erm... male habits that get on my nerves haha. He's uh.. more cuddly though!
