Default Stupid Dog Owner Rant
Jeebus, some people need a good slappin'. I was walking Nitro just a few minutes ago and encountered two off leash dogs followed by their dumbass owner. One is a chow mix and the other is a border collie -- the chow mix has gotten out of his yard and run after Nitro before, and I've chased him back to his yard.

So this off-leash chow (in a leash-only area) runs up near leashed-and-harnessed Nitro and starts stalking him. Nitro's hackles are up -- he is not dog-friendly -- and this chow comes nose to nose with him. They start barking and snarling at each other, the hair is raised on both their backs, I keep pulling Nitro back and trying to get the other dog to move away...

... and this shit-for-brains owner says, "He's friendly! He's only a year old. He's obviously just trying to play with your dog." Snarl snarl bark bark leap jump snarl I pointed out they obviously didn't like each other and he called me an idiot. Where am I getting that idea, he wants to know. His dog is friendly! They're trying to plaaaay. He's had dogs for 40 years and I'm trying to tell him they're not friendly? Go read up on dogs!

He kept yelling at me about how I know nothing about dogs and he's the pro on dogs and I'd better stay away from his dog if I'm going to be so stupid....

I would have said a lot more back but I was too busy trying to make sure Nitro didn't take a chunk out of his useless mutt and end up being put down himself.

Dumb fuckhead. I know where he lives and am tempted to report him for walking his dogs off leash. Maybe I need to read up on dogs (NOT FUCKING LIKELY) but he needs to read the bylaws.

Gah. I hate people some days.

Which is EXACTLY WHAT YOU WERE TRYING TO DO.

Facepalm.

I would call and report, honestly. You're not in the wrong. He is.

This morning an off-leash american bulldog came flying at us at top speed. The owner was running behind it - not sure if the dog got out or the guy was just running with it. I screamed at the guy to get his dog and then I maneuvered Amy across the road to get some distance. It was terrifying.

Definitely call and file a report with the police every time you have an encounter with off leash dogs. This will leave a paper trail that will clearly show you are the responsible owner if/when you or Nitro need to defend yourselves.

I just had one of these experiences, and in turn I had to break up (yet another) a dog fight the other night. Sometimes I just want to slap people.

Ditto. I curse like a drunken sailor sometimes and this would be one of those times!

I start out polite; "No, sorry (our dogs can't meet), we're busy training!"

Then I'll get a little more curt; "My dog is NOT friendly with other dogs, I don't care how friendly your dog is!"

Then I resort to some violence; "My dog WILL BITE your dog!"

Then human physical violence; "I WILL CUT YOU!"

That's basically how my escalated aggression plays out with twats like in the OP!

LMAO! Love it!

I agree - I would definitely report the moronic owner! He needs a good wake up call!

I cringe at reading that you let the dogs get face to face, though! Normally, I'd say to kick the other dog away... but this idiot owner sounds like he would have called the cops on YOU for that But I definitely would NOT have let that dog get close!

I would have dearly loved to give that fucker a boot to the head (and the dog too, lol) but yeah, then I would have had some sort of charge against me. I was prepared to pull out all the stops if teeth started meeting fur, though. I always make sure I wear some kind of shoes that will work for a good kicking session if need be.

I did keep getting between them, yelling at the other dog to get lost and trying to keep Nitro behind me.

K9, I WILL CUT YOU! might be just perfect! A trainer friend of mine said to bring a squirt bottle of ammonia on walks and squirt other dogs who come your way. If nothing else, it'll work on the owners too.

I'm still considering whether I want to let my husband go talk to him or not, being a 6'1" don't-take-no-shit biker. I just don't want him getting into any sort of trouble either....

I would have kicked the crap out of his dog and told him to please call the police! His dog is illegally off leash harassing someone obeying the law. So, yeah, go ahead and call the cops. I'd be happy to tell them I was protecting me and my dog from an off leash dog behaving in a threatening manner,

The reality, one I would explain to the police, is that not all dogs are dog friendly and lots of people get hurt breaking up dog fights because of owner irresponsibility. Not to mention when a dog starts stalking you you have no idea if the dog is also human aggressive and won't know for sure until it's too late and you've been bitten. Better to be proactive than a statistic.

...people just don't surprise me anymore.

from one who always has dogs off-leash running up to Trigger on walks.
