A pug? That shows a lot of people don't know their breeds. A pug is far from an APBT.

Good for you walking off, I would have too.

LOL, I've had the following: pug mix, whippet mix, lab mix (seriously??? a 60 # dog a lab pit mix? My friend's 50/50 lab pit is 24 inches wither and 85#), beagle mix, boxer mix, bulldog mix, and one time even a mastiff mix (seriously a 60# dog a mastiff mix???) Don't worry about it, you know what your dog is

Okay, well to put things in perspective here's my Border Collie, Mick...laying on the end table like a douchebag (that's what I get for clearing the clutter away).

And here's a picture of him as a five-month-old pup (he's three now)...

People usually ask if he's a heeler mix...or if I'm lucky, a Border Collie mix. But more than once somebody asked if he was a pit bull mix and once somebody looked at him, nodded and said, "That's a terrier mix" absolutely seriously.

LOL, he doesn't look like a border collie mix to me. In fact, he looks exactly like a border collie. The hell they got pit mix from?

I have absolutely no idea, but I've heard that twice. And neither time it was related to his tendency to get into dog fights with dogs that get in his face.

But I'm also on a Border Collie message board, and I know of at least one other person there who was asked the same question about their purebred border collie.

In action, he's obviously all Border Collie...all stalking and a very strong "eye." I just wish I had the money to do all the herding lessons I'd like with him, because he's really quite good. I'm the idiot out there in the field with no clue.

LOL, I think it is because your dog is a rough coat/short coat border collie. People are too used to the long coated border collie. Someone once asked if my friend's german shepherd was a mix because he is a long haired shepherd. He is also friendly with strangers if my friend is with him and is relaxed. Otherwise, the dog will alarm bark if he doesn't know you or if he's seen you a lot of times would run at you and hump your leg. This dog is two faced because he will allow the neighbors to pet him if my friend is around but if not, he would hump the guy's leg like crazy if he goes up to him.

Oh yeah, the short coat definitely confuses people. He has a thick looking ruff in that photo, but he coat is actually really short and sleek. It's hard to get good pictures of him. I have to sneak them with my cell, because he thinks my DSLR is going to steal his soul or something.

Mick's friendly as long as I'm cool with the person. I used to rent an old farm house and the landlord ran his landscaping business off the property. The one worker was always real shady acting, and Mick basically always was lunging at the end of his chain (he prefers to spend his days outside) trying to kill the guy. The rest of the landscapers he made friends with and they'd come over and play with him on breaks. He just hated the creepy guy. I don't mind that in a dog.

True story.

When we found Trudi at a shelter in Upstate New York the tag on her crate that read BLACK LAB. I knew she was a pit, just not sure what type. When I pointed this out to the shelter worker she looked at the tag, looked at the pup and said, "Nope, that's a black Lab.

At the front desk I brought the issue up to the shelter manager. He looked Trudi over and said, "I'm sorry sir, this is a Black Lab. Do you still want her?"

Of course we did, and brought her straight away to our vet (great guy, now deceased).

I told him what the shelter staff said and putting her up on the examining table he held her face in hands, then turned to us with a smile and said, "Your Black lab has mumps."

At the time was the shelter allowed to adopt out Pits or Pit mixes? A couple municiple shelters around here can't, so they lie through their teeth. Many a Pit Bull or mix has been labled a Lab mix.

Well, to be fair, he does have the black mask and the brown coloring. As a pup I might have though Mastiff if I saw him

I had not thought of that. Quiet possible, although they seemed to have look at the dog each time before answering.

Numerous times people have stated that they have never seen a boxer that color...and why didn't you bob his tail?

I usually tell them if you could produce a "blue boxer" you would make Million$...

This is Diesel's normal response:

today someone said my dog looked like a Collet... I assume the dumbass meant colleY...
(never mind, the guy actually told me that pit bulls are nothing but unpapered amstaffs. well, they are, but only in the eyes of the law really as they aren't recognized by the FCI)

nice to know, I'm starting another season of Lassie soon!
I will make millions!

Totally feel your pain

Here is what I get on a regular basis:

Giant Chihuahua: I get this one the most. Since when do Chihuahuas come in Giant size?

Labrador Puppy: A woman came up to me and asked if when my dog was grown if I wanted to breed my Labrador puppy with her male Labrador? Seriously? You don't know what a puppy of your own breed looks like and you can't tell a 2 year old dog from a puppy. Definately shouldn't be breeding. I said sorry she's not a lab, shes not a puppy, and she's fixed.

Australian Cattle Dog Mix. I get that one often

Pit Bull puppy: I've gotten this one quite a bit, but more so when she was a puppy.

Basenji: I hear it often

lab/Terrier mix: I get this one often

Corgi: And I quote "Ooh is that one of them Corgi dogs. I've always wanted me a corgi. Is she for sale" My gosh. She is not a purebred dog at all.

Here she is my 27lb Giant Chihuahua:

I wasn't kidding when I said he looked like Loki. Yeah, he's like a 45lb version of Loki. Mick's definitely a purebred. The people who dumped him did it with his ABCA registration papers.
