I am with Kady and Mj, a symbolic slap on the butt is in my repetoir, but not at all my first choice. I currently have the "hardest" dog i've ever had, he is sweet but so driven that he dosn't notice if i'm fed up/ frustrated. Because he is so clueless he gets a whack every now and then, ot at all to hurt him, just to get his dumb ass attention.

I use a 2x4 whenever my dogs need correcting, they jump up and I crack 'em in the head one good time and then twice in the ribs for good measure.

LOL, I threatened my wee Staffie years ago with a pick axe handle, the little bear trap jumped up & took it off me. I guess he had a much harder owner than me before he was rescued.

You would be surprised what "bonding with your dog" does in the []. Not just my experience but it's been mentioned by alot of old time dogman. Even carver bonds with bullyson before the fight. Jeep would quit if only he didn't listen to crenshaw and got his confidence back. If those things don't matter.. then why do they need a handler? Might aswell just drop them in the box and let them kill each other.
bonding and discipline are two totlly different things. discipline is not a form of bonding when you are talking about the ring. You may get out in the yard and run then dog and spring pole but their is still not discipline in these events. a [] dog has no discipline so what you are talking about would fit into your tread

Yeah, 2x4's work pretty good but they're kinda hard to swing with accuracy. I use a tire thumper. Very effective. I cracked my dog a good one the other day and haven't heard a peep out of him since. He's been sleeping an awful long time come to think of it...

Clearly you have no clue. Anyways I won't talk about it anymore. Again.. I got warned by mods of talking too much about this is. I can go on and on with it.. I can even show you a vid of a grand champion that won't scratch when it's not his turn to scratch unless his handler commands him but when he hears the command go he goes nuts. (they have no discipline? Keep on believing in that)That dog beat 3 ch and 2 of them are 4xw going for gr.ch. bid. Anyways.. this is the last time I will answer on this. You can believe what you believe because that is your right.

Just curious.. when you call, he come and visit? How much would that cost?

I haven't tried that.. most of the time I do everything with my hands to show them that this is the hand that will feed you and will whack you if you need it. Worst I did I believe is when my dog got off the chain and went to my mom's room and ripped off her bed. I threw here like 5 times banging on the wall! kick and punch her in the ribs. She got scared of me so much after that. She just hears my voice she shakes in fear. I actually pity her and gave her to a friend, and she got good home there and as a token of it.. she killed their pet pomeranian!

I threaten Veronica that I am going to put her in a pot with some carrots and potatoes and make a lovely pit bull pot roast. Then I remind myself that she would probably be all tough and gamey and unappetizing.

I have at times resorted to the pop on the butt. Sometimes it's a little smack just to emphasize a point when I know it is a behavior she definitely knows. It' not a smack to hurt, just to emphasize communication and deliver information and I'm okay with that because it is a planned and intentional intervention.

A few times I have given her a pop on the butt; again not hard - but not because it was a planned training strategy, but because I lost my temper. That I'm not happy with and that I see as a personal failing within myself which I work on. If I am trying to teach the dog to manage her emotions and control her impulses and think before acting vs reacting - I figure I owe it to her to at least be capable of doing that myself.

Honestly I don't hit my dogs, my male, all I have to do is say "no" when he starts to do something wrong and he stops, my bully female does have a jumping issue that I have been trying to work on, half the time she is good the other half she gets happy retarded and jumps up and runs around like a happy lil retard so I pop her nose when she jumps.. Really want to use her as a pull dog, she is a strong one.

I have on the rare occassion smacked one of my dogs. The other day Nick jumped out of my car at agility practice and headed for the arena. I yelled, but he wasn't stopping (he gets to play in the arena when we're done) someone grabbed him for me, and I did swat his butt, then drug him back to the car, picked him up and tossed him in. (not easy to do with a 70lbs dog!)
But usually if they are really focused on something and I want to get their attention, I'll give them a light swat on the rear to break their focus. Or I'll use my foot, but I don't do it hard enough to cause pain, just a quick tap, just enough to get their attention back on me.

I have to agree.. most dogs that I own since puppyhood acts good when im around. I just have some dogs that I got when they are already adults that needs to know that I'm their boss!

I usually farm out my pups when I bred, and when they turned out something I like.. I get 'em and replace them with other pups or dogs. So time and time again I get this stubborn young adult to adult dog that is testing my wits!

I'll smack my dogs if they deserve it. And everyone has had at least one CTJM for serious transgressions like growling at me over a bone. None of them are hand shy BTW, but they know I don't fuck around.

My dogs get smacked when needed....Beau has had SEVERAL CTJM over the course of his 9 years and it works. Trained Takoda to do a perfect heel with a smack on the butt with the end of the leash....it works wonders!

I have never had to hit my dogs, usually no or leave it works. When they get over zealous, I have a belt that I snap together and the loud sounds gets their attention and they go to their rooms.
