I live on an Army post and both of my pits are grandfathered in since they were registered with the vet on post before the ban went into effect, but since it's been awhile since the ban went into effect there are not a lot of pits on post anymore and the vast majority of people don't know the regulations. Heck, I'm not clear on some of them because they are different depending on if you talk to housing (which is another company outside of the military) or the vet (which is an actual military unit). Anyways...I follow the strictest regulations (insurance, muzzles when they aren't in my house or backyard, locked fence, ect) and have never had a problem (well, except the one time the cops got called because my dogs were "fighting"
![]() Well, this morning I let the dogs out then fell back asleep on the couch with them. 8am rolls around and there is a knock at the door. Two military police are standing there with the AC officer. I met her before when she did a walk-through behind all the back yards and I happened to be outside. They asked me if I had pit bulls. I told them yes and they are registered. They said they couldn't find them in the system ![]() It took me physically going to vet with them and the vet explaining about how you CAN'T have your dog been seen by them without registering them and then going to the housing office and having them prove that we've lived here before the ban went into effect! I was livid because it was the little mistake of someone looking up the wrong address when they were checking to see if mine had been registered in the first place. I can't wait til he gets out and we move home! |

Just confirms that military placements just aren't a good thing for this breed and probably a lot of dogs.....just too complicated, even if you CAN keep them... |
