The foster group where we got Josey labeled her a blue and white pit bull terrier mix and then the vet followed the same way and put that on her paperwork and licsense application.
To me she has a a light colored tan nose the pretty much matches the majority of her fur color and then has white markings. Can someone explain - what makes a blue? |

I agree - I think she is pretty and really don't care if she has a red nose, black or blue one. Just very confused about all the discussion on this. My son-in-law who helped foster her before we adopted her said that the color blue just refers to the nose. I sort of think her nose is the same color as her fur.
Whatever - it is just very strange to me and don't understand all the controversy about this. All I care about is if for some reason - and I will do everything to not let it happen - if she should get out and lost - I would hope I would know how to describe her on a poster. That is the main reason I started this thread. I think I would just say pretty pale brown and white medium sized dog - muscular and forget the color of her nose. |

Well that is not a blue dog. Sadly many shelters/ rescues and yes even vets don't know about different breeds and what colors are actually called among other things..... I find it sad.
I would have them change the info on her records. I have a sticky thread that shows color charts from UKC, AKC and ADBA that will help you out. Take a peek at it. |

Ok - As I said in the original post - she is a rescue mix - I guess Rescue groups have to put at the best of their ability what type of mix they think she is - I don't care, to me she is tan and white and if she has no pit in her that is fine too.
Just the possibility that she does have some of the breed in her I am trying to be responsible and learn what I can about them. It seems to me there is a great deal of confusion on this subject and I was just trying to understand. She is a great little dog and smart as a whip. I'm not trying to put her in any American Pit Bull classification - just wondered why they put blue and white - and with purebred dogs what would determine the classification Just nose color - fur color - I'm beginning to think no one knows. No need to respond - I will search around more on my own. Thanks Patch O'Pits - I will take a look at your information too. |

She looks like she has some "pit bull" to me. Whether she is fullbred or not is up in the air since she is from a rescue.
However, blue nose, red nose, etc. are just nose colors, not breeds. I know that for fact. There is a family of American Pit Bull Terrier that are called Old Family Red Nose, however, they are still 100% APBTs, not a separate breed. ![]() Many people confuse the red nose and blue nose as bloodlines, which is understandable seeing how so many people throw the terms around, but in the end, they are just a way to describe your dog, i.e. like saying "my boyfriend has blue eyes." |

Color is only fur deep so to speak. Coat color has nothing to do with the quality of the dog.
Sadly there are so many fads breeders out there making up their own names for colors and producing extremely diluted coats that there is no wonder many get confused. She is an adorable pup.... the only reason why I would update her pares to have them reflect her true color is in case she ever was lost or stolen so you'd have accurate info listed on her. Looking at her amber eyes in the photos to me she looks like maybe a light chocolate red nose.. Picts however can often be deceiving and lighting also affects color in picts. So I hate judging colors online. |
