Inertia is a hypothetical property to which we attribute an object's conserving of momentum.
Seems a strange way to put it to me. Why do you call it a "hypothetical" property?

I mean it's seems to be a property that brings about a kind of behaviour, but we don't know what that property is in itself other than we say it is evidenced (word?) by the behaviour, and without any explanation of how it would do that. Like a vitus dormitiva.
