This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including:
•Internet connectivity has been lost. •The website is temporarily unavailable. •The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable. •The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's domain. •There might be a typing error in the address. •If this is an HTTPS (secure) address, click Tools, click Internet Options, click Advanced, and check to be sure the SSL and TLS protocols are enabled under the security section. For offline users You can still view subscribed feeds and some recently viewed webpages. To view subscribed feeds: 1.Click the Favorites button , click Feeds, and then click the feed you want to view. To view recently visited webpages (might not work on all pages): 1.Press Alt, click File, and then click Work Offline. 2.Click the Favorites button , click History, and then click the page you want to view. I have been getting this message recently and it has gotten to the stage where I am truly fed up! IE9, Windows 7. All sorts of different places - an insurance quoter site (https); another forum I am a member of; a redirection to paypal. I am not being disconnected from internet as I can open other windows and browse. Checked the SSL&TLS they were ok. Had success doing the same stuff on other laptop here with IE9 & Win7 - so it is some setting on this machine. Any ideas? |

That's the standard "can't find things" page and it's not really very informative even though there's heaps of words.
Does any other browser, like Firefox, Opera or Chrome, have problems with the same sites on that computer? That will, at least, narrow it down to the browser or the computer. Is the antivirus and security software on all the machines the same? |

Ok it works on Google Chrome (this is the insurance quoter https).
The other Win7 machine it did work on has the same AV - MS security essentials. So looks like IE9 on this machine is the issue? I haven't done the dnsflush yet - have to do head off for school pick up - BBL & will try that & let you know |

Reset Internet Explorer 9 settings
You can reset Windows Internet Explorer 9 settings to return them to the state they were in when Internet Explorer was first installed on your computer. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/w...net-Explorer-9 |

You need some diagnostic tools to determine if the problem is with IE9 or not.
The easiest way is to download Google Chrome Portable (or any other alternate browser) and install it in its own directory, or even on an external memory stick. (This installation is "Portable", meaning it does not install as such, it is all self-contained in its own directory. Delete that directory and it is out of your life for good.) Then you use it for a bit, and if the problem occurs with it as well, you know the problem is not IE9. If it doesn't, you may just not bother going back to IE. |

When I had this problem, after much hair tearing and teeth gnashing, with useless help from the ISP tech, I sorted the problem to be the MTU ( Maximum Transmission Unit).
Some pages would open, some would not. This link explains for Xp. There is certain to be something for W7: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283165 |

Or if you are really keen: http://blogging.nitecruzr.net/2007/0...-computer.html
It got to be to much trouble, so I just reduced mine by 50 increments until everything opened. Good luck. |
