The UNHRC should be focused on real enemies of human rights such as Syria, Iran, China, Saudi Arabia, and Sudan.
Ambassador says US "troubled" by Council's "biased and disproportionate focus on Israel"; Palestinians ask for probe into settler behavior; Israel says request is ploy to dodge talks; body discusses Golan Heights tensions. The United States on Monday urged the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva to stop its biased treatment of Israel. It took particular issue the council’s Agenda Item 7, under which at every session Israel’s human rights record in areas over the pre-1967 line is debated. Israel is the only country to have a dedicated agenda item. “The United States continues to be deeply troubled by this Council’s biased and disproportionate focus on Israel, as exemplified by this standing agenda item,” the US Ambassador to the UNHRC Eileen Chamberlain Donahoe said. She spoke during a day-long debate on five UNHRC resolutions on Israel and the Palestinians in Geneva, including one which dealt with Israel’s treatment of Syrians in the Golan Heights. One resolution dealt with Palestinian self-determination. Two others condemned Israel’s treatment of Palestinians. A fourth called on the UNHRC to create a fact-finding mission on West Bank settlements.... source: http://www.jpost.com/DiplomacyAndPol...aspx?id=262520 |

I am really surprised an anti-Semitic organization like the UNHRC isn't going to let this Hamas terrorist speak.
A top Hamas official's appearance before the UN's Human Rights Council was canceled on Monday following an official complaint filed by Israel. Israeli Ambassador Aharon Leshno-Yaar says he wrote to UN officials urging them to deny Ismail Al-Ashqar access to the UN's European headquarters because of Hamas' advocacy of violence against Israel. Following the complaint the UN chief in Geneva barred Al-Ashqar from entering the Human Rights Council hall, and he was asked to leave the UN compound in Geneva. Leshno-Yaar wrote to UN officials that Al-Ashqar is known to have preached for terror attacks against Israel. "The UN is part of the Quartet, which is asking all sides in the Middle East to denounce terror and commit to agreements signed between Israel and the Palestinian Authority," he wrote. "It is unacceptable that a representative of a terrorist organization will appear in a UN-sponsored framework." source: http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomac...laint-1.419579 |
