Default Bye Mr Powell
People are seriously misguided if they think Powell was somehow held captive against his will. He had ample opportunity to leave on the many occasions he was told to account for the admins policies when they might not add up. If people asked they'd discover that Powell was very aligned with the administration. He was doing his job which was diplomacy so he was always going to give noncommittal answers to questions. Even today he said "I'm executing George Bush's policies not Colin Powell's". The fact that he showed restrained good sense and discipline speaks really to the man character and his job, not to what he might or might not believe.

Bush chose Condi to replace Powell. Although her speciality is in Central and Eastern-European politics, she seems like a good choice.

Bye Mr Powell Don't let the door hit ya...

Powell very clearly and plainly explained that he was never executing on the policies of Colin Powell but on the policies of George Bush. You will not see any difference in substance with the new Secy. Maybe in terms of delivery but not in substance. And let's not forget that Armitage who was more of a hawk than Dr. Rice just resigned as the #2 at state.

You mean the gap between our true allies in Israel, Australia, Japan, and to a lesser degree, Canada and Mexico will widen?
Australia to a better extend though it's a bit controversial, but you know the japanese population is strongly against invading.

As a matter of fact these two countries are entirely dependent on the US for their defense. So they have had to send troops but's it's both symbolic in number and controversial politically. Maybe the japanese will pay the US, though.

as for Canadian and mexicans ... it's "to a lesser degree" as you say. They were both strongly against the invasion ..

now don't get me wrong, I do not wish that the US is unilateral, agressive and isolated ... it just appears that's what Bush II policy is likely to be that way, because that's who he puts in charge. Powell was a man of honor while Condy is more like a tank than a diplomat.

and I'm not so sure she will be very patient with Israel either.

Today, as the shadow of Islamo-terrorism passes over Europe.
sorry to interrupt, but I think I recognize that style .. are you not RichardP?

.... the first Illuminatus posts made you look like someone able to bring some solid arguments, but dig a bit and this is just the same logos coming out a different mouth.
Don't think I'm happy to detect that, I'm disappointed. There should be plenty of interesting posters on that forum, with whom we could have deep interesting, controversial, debates..
