FEMA is mismanaged and has wasted billions of taxpayer dollars. Perhaps a President Romney can sort it out.

Thanks for the links and quotes LE.

Wonder what FEMA's aftermath of this storm will be? Especially since the timing of this storm is so critical to those in power. And, the news is being filled with people complaining about being inconvenienced.

FWIW..... My heart goes out to those who have lost loved ones and/or their homes have been DESTROYED. And to those who are truely unable to help themselves - elderly, infirm, etc. (Nothing that follows should be construed that we aren't biblically responsible for helping those who are less fortunate than ourselves.)

Yet, I have little to no patience for those who didn't lose their homes or worse and are expecting immediate relief in the magnitude in this disaster. Yes, I know it's cold. I grew up in an uninsulated farm house that wasn't heated at night. (NC record low is -5 for this area.) Few, with homes intact, have valid excuses for complaints with the amount of advance warning that was issued. Even the very poor could have filled their pots, pans and clean soda bottles with water before this storm hit. Shouldn't everyone in cold climates have enough blankets/quilts to keep warm if the heat fails? etc & etc -- self-reliance and independence --

FEMA will oil the squeeking wheels, but at what cost that'll only become apparent, perhaps years later, if this world stands that long. Government has created this entitled society over the last 100 years or so. So much so, that any attempt to undo some of the damage that's been done is heralded as an attack on the "unfortunate". The unfortunate who demand even more and a more rapid response or the wheels will squeek even louder.

What's happened to prepare in 7 years of feast to weather 7 years of famine?

Mitt Romney had to quickly backtrack from a populist-toned campaign pitch to put power back in the hands of state and local entities during disaster, instead backing the big government FEMA solution that has proven ridiculously incompetent during past disasters despite extensive and costly planning for emergency plans and a blank check to Homeland Security’s mission.

Mainstream media have echoed this uncritical endorsement, giving FEMA preemptive praise for its efforts in Sandy. ‘FEMA is the solution,’ and other bold claims are made to ensure the public does not break out of the illusion that FEMA is its loving savior.

But FEMA remains an agency capable only of a mismatched response, too slow to handle the most immediate needs to contain potential chaos, but always on pace for a gradual power grab after the fact, actually feeding off a greater disaster.

Once again, this bloated government agency can’t and won’t help the masses in a disaster. Yet politicians throughout the corporate-owned two party system are lining up to meet any request for FEMA funds, already approaching $12 billion plus, despite its track record of failure.

While nearly 5 million people are without power for perhaps another week, the Huffington Post, among others, has identified 17 million living in FEMA’s disaster relief zone, soon to be occupied by an inefficient, top down control mechanism.

CONTINUE . . .

What's that you say FEMA isn't working fast enough? Well, the solution then as with any big government solution that doesn't work is to give it more power, more money and more control and when that doesn't work either just keep repeating the process until it does.
