Obviously an oversight of the war on terror has been the US ignoring South America.

I think this is another example of how ill prepared this administration is for international affairs. Once the war on terror was declared all else was put on the back burner.

Without interest, investment and attention many of the South American countries that are still struggling to overcome the inequities of colonialism tend to move into extremism ...just like in Middle East.
