Allright. Now that we've all had our laughs at the Whitehouse's expense, what do you think about the increasingly frequent independent inquiries? As far as I can gather, the initial reason for launching the inquiry was that apparently a CIA agent had been exposed, which is a federal crime, and that eventually made the justice department via the attorney general call for appointing the special councel. To get to the bottom of the case.
However, should this have been investigated by federal prosecutors? Was it really any doubt from the outset that there would never be found that any high official could have managed to actually break the law? What about in the future, would the severity of the alleged crime warrant another independent inquiry? With very limited opportunity to dig very deep into the intents and details of whatever the investigator would deem related to the possible crime? Something that quite likely would result in, after lengthy interviews, some kind of discrepancy that would result in a count of obstruction of justice and perjury of some sort? And if not cause prison sentences, expose embarrassing details? Will the possibility of this being launched by purely political motives undermine the entire process, even if the investigation itself was conducted with all possible accuracy and honesty? Or is the arrangement a good one that establishes the fact that no official is above the law, and is necessary for that reason? |
