Default So many parallels between Bush and Nixon
1. Both very conservative
2. Both dark, deeply dark psychès, with mildly paranoid features
3. Both worshippers of war
4. Both bombed their way through history
5. Both invented, lied, fantasized their way through history
6. Both had links to the military-industrial complex
7. Both employed some of the world's most wanted criminals (Kissinger / Rumsfeld)
8. Both lost two of their most important political aides (Haldeman+Erlichman / Rove+Libby)
9. Both were impeached for their crimes
10. Both were total drunks

It's bizarre, really.

Clinton was impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives and in the ensuing trial in the U.S. Senate, Clinton was acquitted on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice. He joined Andrew Johnson as one of the only two presidents to face an impeachment trial; Richard Nixon resigned under threat of impeachment.

What's even more bizarre and hilarious is that you can post such stupid threads based on false information. Neither Bush, nor Nixon, was impeached. Actually, I take it back. Coming from you, it's not bizarre. Just hilarious, as usual.

I think that he's predicting the future.

You know, the thing is that I like Richard Nixon...

He's a damn politician, he can't lie? Come on people... It comes with the territory. It's a way to get things to go your way, and in Washington the good presidents are the ones that get things to go their way.
(Abridgement of the Constitution not withstanding...)

Bush is a good example... Would there have been an Iraqi occupation had Bush not lied? No. The lie was a political tool. A good politician, like a good lawyer, is also a good liar.

Of course, the even better politician is the good liar that doesn't get caught...

By today's standards, the "very conservative" Nixon of the early 70s would be somewhere to the left of Bill Clinton.

There's lying and there's lying. Nixon was, in the full psychological sense of the term, a "pathological liar."

Read some of the early interviews with the press when he was in California politics and you'll notice two things about Nixon's statements, cropping up on a regular basis: (1) He lied about things that could easily be checked independently and proved to be false, and (2) he never had to lie about any of those things in the first place! This is what pathological lying is.

Bush, on the other hand, doesn't actually lie nearly as much as he bullshits. He isn't trying to hide the truth because he simply doesn't care what the truth is. He just convinces himself that everything he says is true and tries to sound sincere about it.

Is that sarcasm? Nixon isn't in politics, anymore, so he can't get impeached.
