Were you not the the one laughing off Farrakhan's theory about the levee being bombed? Hank is a wonderful guy who happens to believe that the late 60s early 70's activist group "The Weathermen" have taken over the global educational system so they can promote the liberal agenda, disparage and good christian science. He also believes that evolution's popularity is a direct result of this takeover, that the earth is 6,000 years old and that Santa Clause is a giant robot(who was previously a giant ape) who has enslaved elves from the planet mars to make his toys. Actually, that bit about Santa might have been from the ghost of christmas past on the show Aqua Teen Hunger Force, but the rest is definitly Hank. |

Former FEMA director Michael Brown aggressively defended his role in responding to Hurricane Katrina on Tuesday and put much of the blame for coordination failures on Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco and New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin. http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/09/....ap/index.html
To me, this is really disappointing. The Hurricane Katrina investigation is going to be run by congressional republicans, so of course its going to be a partisan hack job on local democratic leaders. Congress won't allow an independant investigation, for obvious reasons... The federal government blew it in Louisiana and New Orleans. I was really hoping for a serious inquiry into what went on, unfortunately it looks like this is the best we're gonna get. |

yeah, im watching parts of it. it would be easier if they just smacked his little hand and send him back out to play.
I think everyone who has been blamed should be put in the middle of a room, cameras fixed on them and let them fight it out. They could put it on PPV, make millions, use that money for the relief effort and give most of America a good dose of entertainment. ![]() |

Republican mantra: Blah, blah, blah...nothing is ever our fault...blah, blah, blah...personal responsibility is for others not for us...our work is hard...we shouldn't be doing this anyway -- see how bad we did it? And it was all the democrats fault we failed -- err -- um -- we never failed, but we will never do it again!

Couldn't be that the sinkhole of corruption that was Nola politics allowed this to happen? Or that money meant for repairing the levees was diverted and spent on other things; or have to deal with the large part of the nola populace that lives off the government tip. We all know Bush doesn't like black people and really enjoyed watching that cesspool of a city drown. What I do know is that, in comparison to the screw ups by the Federal Government, the State and Local government did a spectacular job. The head of the federal government, the Bush Administration, was MIA through the first 3 days of the disaster. They were literally on vacation and buying shoes. As for FEMA and Brown, here is a list of FEMA's responsibilities as listed on their website. Advising on building codes and flood plain management...teaching people how to get through a disaster...helping equip local and state emergency preparedness...coordinating the federal response to a disaster...making disaster assistance available to states, communities, businesses and individuals...training emergency managers...supporting the nation's fire service...administering the national flood and crime insurance programs...the range of FEMA's activities is broad indeed. http://www.fema.gov/about/what.shtm Just how well did FEMA handle coordinating the Federal Response (which took days) or making assistance available to Louisiana? This was a huge hurricane, and it was known to be a huge problem, well in advance of it hitting. The Federal response was a national humiliation. Brian Williams claims to have had to explain to Brown that the federal government can air lift aid into New Orleans in this interview. http://www.comedycentral.com/shows/t...ws/index.jhtml This is what happens when you appoint poliitcal friends rather than professionsals to important positions. Brown had no buisness being the head of FEMA, and neither did his predecessor. In short, yes the local and state responses weren't perfect, but you can't even compare them to the incompetence shown by the federal government. |
