Default FNC Poll on President Bush
I dont put much weight into polls, but as this one details more of its methods I thought it interesting to point out some things. I am by no means saying that this poll is reflective of reality, however the responses by 900 or so people so seem to conincide with what I already believe to be fact.

First, the approval rating. 39% approve of GWBs job as Pres. On the outset, you think, hey that 61% dissaprove. Wow. Of course, 11 said they dont know, so that number is really 51%, which doesnt sounds as bad. Then when you look in the numbers, you see 8% of Dems approve, 74% of republicans approve. Well, that changes things. Obviously we have partisan issues here.

But, to really find out why THESE people polled this way you have to look inside the issuses.

On terrorism, repsondants chose republicans over democrats to do a better job - 39% to 30%.

On Iraq, 59% think the Iraqi people are better off, 32% dont.

74% think the US is safer without Sadaam in power, 24% do not.

As you can tell, this gives a little bit of insight in to why republicans win elections. The issue people most care about right now is national security, which republicans usually win, even when the perception is that things are going badly.

I think that's an interesting demographic breakdown. I would like to point out, however, that I believe the bolded questions have no real bearing on the isssue. Saddam being a murderous dictator has nothing to do with partisan politics, and everything to do with the bolded results. I think the most telling thing, as you pointed out, is that even with Bush's sub-par approval rating, people still trust him more than "the other guy" to protect the country (although it reads to me like a third of the country doesn't trust either one).

To be honest those latest set of polls were very confusing! 74% of the country thinks the world is better off for Saddam out of power and the war in Iraq and 60% believe the Iraqi's are better off now than under Saddam but yet only 38% of those polled believe there will ever be a stable democratic state in Iraq! So it is actually perceived that Saddam's regime was even worse than an unstable volitale war zone!
