I want to see how many laws we actually have in this Union of ours. Each person must post a law, and they can say that: they either agree with it, or they don't agree with it. Whether you agree with it or not is immaterial, and I just want to see how many laws (either active or proposed) the U.S. has so we can post them on this thread. I don't want to get into a discussion about each one; just list them please. Please only list one per post, and allow others to post after you so we don't re post a law that another poster already mentioned. Also, it doesn't matter whether you think it'll pass or not. This will just show us all the state of mind our government officials are and have been in. If you will number your post, and bold the text, it will aid in seeing them easier.
Thanks I'll start 1)Smoking in your car: The state of New Jersey now wants to ban smoking in your own car. Assemblyman John McKeon (D-West Orange) introduced legislation which would prohibit smoking while driving. |

2: Transportation of alcohol in your own car is illegal in several states.
Just another of those stupid state laws that dont make any sense. Typical! Its pretty obvious that there are way too many unnecessary, and especially unfair laws at both the federal and state level. Its quite embarrassing actually. |

You cannot transport alcohol if the container is open. This may not apply to alcohol in the trunk. Such a law does not strike me as unreasonable. |

Here's a website with a list of some silly laws. I'm sure there are many more out there.
Warning labels are pretty stupid as well. Once, I saw a warning label on a soda bottle that said something to the effect of, "Contents Under Pressure. Do Not Open With Cap Facing Eye." What the hell? |

I´ve heard that its illegal even to have a not-opened beer can with you in the car. the silly laws list by noting there are hundreds of "dry" counties in the US where the sale of alcoholic beverages is forbidden. I did some googling, and did find that Mississippi forbids transport of unopened containers of alcohol "across" any dry county, although I do not do not think any jurisduction forbids transport of alcohol into it for personal consumption. Go ahead and take a point on this one. |

"I want to see how many laws we actually have in this Union of ours."
At 100 posted laws per day, I imagine the list could be complete by 2012 or so. Good luck. "3. It is illegal to drive with bare feet! This doesnt make any sense! It should be illegal to drive with high heels. That is dangerous" Fred Flintsone, rebel. |

Well I´ve heard that its illegal to drive around even with a not-opened beer can in your car. In other words, in 99.99999% of the US, driving around with unopened alcohol in your car is perfectly fine and often expected on Friday and Saturday nights. ![]() Some places in the US do allow you to drive with opened alcohol in the car, as long as it's out of the reach of the driver. I'm pretty sure all states allow you to drive around with open alcohol if there is something physically separating the area of the driver and the area with the alcohol. This is how limousine services get by with a full bar. |

If the beer retailer sees you put an unopened beer can in your car, he is required to notify the Beer Cops. |

We need to clean the books of antiquated, and useless laws. In esscense things aredifferent for us anyway to most other nations as we are a federal republic in which states' rights are valued as apposed to just letting the federal government just run everything. With other countries they have local government's, provoncial governments, state and local council's and district and regional laws but to be honest its notreally like it is here anywhere else in the world where things are so set in stone as to jurisdiction and authority and the proccess in which laws can be appealed and so on. As sometimes yes it can be a nuisance with all the "unneccessary laws" its because we hve the best system that sometimes we tend to be over-regulatory and over-litigious as a nation. |

I hear in Europe, you can't carry a full flagon of grog while flying a dragon. If you do, you will be branded a heritic and fed to the Sarlac Pit. |
