Crooks and Liars comes through with an outstanding post!!

The Joys of Living in a Fantasyland

FANTASY # 1
Event: A CBS News poll shows Bush at an all-time low approval rating of 34%.
Response of Bush followers: The poll is biased, unfair, and therefore we can happily ignore the results.

FANTASY # 2
Event: Multiple other polls released in the next two days after the CBS poll also show Bush at or near all-time low approval ratings.
Response of Bush follower: All of the polls are biased and therefore we can happily ignore the results.

FANTASY # 3
Event: Sectarian violence reaches an all-time high in Iraq as all signs point to the beginning of a civil war.
Response of Bush followers: There are no real problems in Iraq. "Hysterical news coverage" of the violence was "exaggerated". Things are peaceful and great in Iraq. The whole "civil war" thing is just a fiction invented by the Bush-hating media.

FANTASY # 4
Event: Multiple polls show that a majority of the public opposes warrantless eavesdropping and believe the President broke the law by implementing the NSA eavesdropping program.
Response of Bush followers: From the always-fact-ignoring Bush follower John Hinderaker:

"How did the secret wiretapping program 'tarnish' the administration's 'tough-on-terror image'? It didn't. It enhanced it, and the public has solidly backed the administration's position" (emphasis added; no links provided by John for this claim).

Fantasy # 5
Event: A Zogby poll reported that even the U.S. troops in Iraq believe we should withdraw this year.
Response of Bush followers: The poll is biased, unfair, and therefore we can happily ignore the results.

It may not be the healthiest or most honest way to look at the world, but that really is how our country has been governed for the last 5 years, and counting.

It shows how they just disconnect from reality. The news is not really the news. O'Reilly is truth.

They truely do live in a Fantasyland.

HOW DARE YOU SUGGEST THAT THISE PEOPLE WOULD CRY???They would do nothing of the sort, they would just say:

The information is biased, unfair, and therefore we can happily ignore the results.

Polls were never so relied upon until.....
... an anonymous cell phone call from an airliner told them to.

No, my young apprentice. You have a VERY long way to go to qualify for true kookdom.

Mostly none by themselves, but CBS is a definite NO. I like to see more than one hysterical source, of which CBS definitely is.

The OP also is one that states it impossible to make a cell call from an airplane and then states he has made cell calls from airplanes. When the originator of the thread has been proven to be quite confused, and uses CBS as a source, with an incoherent title for the thread, as far as I can see, it's just a rant. The internals of the CBS poll have been analyzed and the poll has been proven to be thoroughly biased (surprise!).

Just as certain posters like to cut-and-paste from any left-wing website they can find, I'll bet I can find just as many biased stories from right-wing sites, although I just don't have the time to waste.

Crooks and Liars is not the source. The stories all come from press releases and they are linked. You know this.

What they are doing is illustrating how Bush loyalists react to news from just one week. One week! Incredible!

It's a clear picture how you just discard news you don't like. It shows the technique of how you guys are able to dismiss anything you don't like.

Tell me that's not the news that you all were responding to with the same exact arguments!

It's clear as day that most of the time spent here is not on political debate, but more like trying to have Bush loyalist accept reality. It's clear as day that as news flows in, you guys wait for the talking points to be posted to respond. It happened exactly like that in the Katrina-Bushlie threads.

Far be it that liberals are exempt from such acts, but damn, you guys are really taking the cake and it's just flat out absurd now. Politics practically revolves around polls in a democracy, and now you guys say "Eh.. we don't like polls..."

What what now then?

This is a quote of the first post, the original that started this thread. The link provided goes directly to "Crooksandliars". If "Crooksandliars" was not the source, the link should go somewhere else. This isn't cell phone science.

Actually, your choice of sources says quite a bit about how you view the world. Just as Philip is obsessed with hating Jews, you seem even more obsessed with hating Bush.

And by the way Mr. Failure, your original post was a 100% cut-and-paste from your non-source. I do believe that forum rules dictate only a certain percentage of the original article may be quoted and I believe it's less than 100%, unless the rules only apply to certain people here.

"3. You may copy and paste an excerpt or series of excerpts, not the whole thing or even the majority of the whole thing to encourage people to read the entire article.

A violation of any of the above will result in the deletion or closing of the post or thread and could earn you a warning or suspension."

I've edited the post. We are currently working on updating the rules so that they are all in one nice little post. I know having the rules in multiple announcements and stickies can be confusing and difficult to keep up with, so we are working to correct that. We want to thank board members for their patience as we work on this. As always, if anyone has any questions, concerns, comments, and/or complaints please feel free to PM me. Please note that I also accept PMs full of praise, compliments, and cheer

A recent poll shows 100% of Americans think that polls are only 72% accurate. The company that took this poll is 98% certain that 47% of the people that read this will ask for a source. They also found that 36% will argue with the results and 10% will care. Meanwhile they also realized that 82% of all stats are made up 95% of the time.

Spad, the best you got to offer on this thread was narcing out a forum rule that I didn't even know about? I wouldn't nessessarily call it a disasterous violation, but then again, I did single-handedly cause a two-sentence all caps apocalypse here just a couple days ago.

Anyways, what Bush supporters are avoiding is the evident denial that Bush loyalists go through when reading the news.

Spad while I do not diagree with your attempt to remind him of the cut and paste rule, I tried that repeatedly. Mods appearantly in this case thought the rule looked pretty on paper but have decided not to enforce it. Good luck though because I wish they would.
