Default George Bush and psycopathy
"GEORGE W. BUSH BLEW UP FROGS"

MIDLAND, Texas ANIMAL PEOPLE, July/August 2000

An alert for American voters and humane educators everywhere appeared on May 21 in the 61st through 64th paragraphs of a 76-paragraph NEW YORK TIMES feature on the childhood of Republican candidate for U.S. president George W. Bush -- if anyone noticed.

«One of the local rituals for children,» reported Nicholas D. Kristof of Life in Midland, Texas, when George W. was a boy, «were meetings with cookies and milk at the home of a nice old lady who represented the SPCA. The cookies were digested more thoroughly than the teachings.»

«`We were terrible to animals,' recalled [Bush pal Terry] Throckmorton, laughing. A dip behind the Bush borne turned into a small lake after a good rain, and thousands of frogs would come out. `Everybody would get BB guns and shoot them,' Throckmorton said. `Or we'd put firecrackers in the frogs and throw them and blow them up.'»

Kristof made plain that «we» explicitly included George W. Bush, and that George W., the Safari Club International «Governor of the Year» in 1999 for his support of trophy hunting, was the leader among the boys who did it. It's an old story but I haven't seen it before.

«It is commonsense knowledge that any individual who harms animals cruelly and deliberately is not otherwise well-adjusted. A man who abuses the family dog or cat may turn that violence on his spouse or children. Those children involved in school shootings weren't just `having fun' or `just being boys' -- they were engaged in torturing and hurting animals. As a society, we cannot overlook the fact that a person who hurts animals is committing an act of violence and may eventually turn on human beings.» After 5 years of watching the Bush administration, it does make sense. It would have been too outrageous to believe even 3 years ago. But now...nothing will surprise me.

DOPPELGANGER? If accused serial killer Robert Yates, 48, of Spokane, Washington, had been caught and convicted in Texas, be might have been among those whose killing by lethal injection Bush approved.

If Bush and Yates had been closer in age and geography, they might have been friends, sharing their love of church, baseball, and -- especially -- using their guns to kill small animals. Instead Yates grew up in Oak Harbor, Washington. An April 26 investigative report on Yates' youth by Jessie Stensland of the WHIDBEY NEWS-TIMES and SOUTH WHIDBEY RECORD buried mention of Yates' hunting in the l7th paragraph of 21.

hmmm .... yeah cruelty to animals IS a potential indicator of psychopathic behaviour in later life ... however, not always. I'd be thinking extreme cruelty where he was acting alone, rather than in a group (groups kind of diffuse responsibility), and escalating levels of cruelty .... starting with frogs, escalating to larger animals ... and more things which involve watching the animal die slowly in extreme pain.

There are other behaviours also in combination with this which would give a clearer indication ... Georgie doesn't really come into that realm from what I've seen.

Some cruelty to animals is not that uncommon among relatively normal boys where opportunities present themselves. Especially cruelty to smaller non mammalian species. Its not nice, and often boys who get into that can be overbearing bullies who may have issues, and turn into some pretty unnice adults, but not always.

I think Georgie may have been quite a revolting little turd as a kid, but that doesn't make him psychopathic.

Great title for a thread - or a tabloid - but where's the connection? Bush may have been an obnoxious kid, and maybe not - who knows? How can we possible know any details about this?

Psycopathy? Well, I certainly disagree with his policies, but using the DSMIV to diagnose famous people is tricky business.

You got me with the title though. I fell for it...

I dunno, no one I knew blew up frogs.

We used to catch tadpoles in the Bayou in Houston and bring them home to grow in our kiddie pool. My psychopathic mother though, dumped it as soon as they grew arms and legs. I guess she didn't want a backyard full of frogs

Christ, grow up in the boonies. We used to launch REAL M-80s with wrist-rockets. Shooting rabbits and squirrels with 22s. We used to love to blow shit up. Anyone remember Big Bang carbide cannons?

Sam, if this isn't some kind of joke, I think you've stretched the limits just a tad.

And don't forget that some guys got so good at blowing stuff up, they managed to blow up the WTC without anyone knowing.

This proves nothing, phsychologist may have a field day (phsychology has become more complex than it should be), but its perfectly normal behavior for boys to kill animals indirectly or directly. Heck, by that age I bet some people take their sons hunting (you know, to kill animals). Why don't people just understand that killing is in our nature, whether we like it or not, and that we're animals that eat other animals. You can put your fingers in your ears and go la la la la la, but its the truth. Now, this thread suggest that everyone who kills animals will continue to do so until they long to get a taste for human blood, wrong.
You see, some humans are satisfied with the power to take the life of animals, it sustains them (hunting), and others mature from boyhood to have a greater appreciation of life and death (With the last bunch becoming phychopaths). Oh, by the way, how many boys kill ants or roaches and other bugs? Heck, I killed a bug the other day, snuffed out life without a thought (guess I'm a psycopath, and oh I killed a few germs the other day too). Death is a necessary part of life, until we accept that, we're going to be wasting a lot of time with the irrelevant. I love animals myself, but its not that unsual to love your own species more, or for that matter to hate your species more. ^.^

No. What's the deal?

I suppose stretching is OK, as long as we're not wearing Spandex.

Back to the original thread. I grew up on water with a lake and a sailboat, etc. We used to tie rocks to M-80s (waterproof fuses) and drop them off the dock. We caught a lot of fish that way.

Making noise, blowing things up, shooting guns, and generally raising Hell is a pretty normal characteristic of young boys. Much as you might try, you won't get it out of them.

WHAT!!!? you didn't like my joke? It doesn't really work well on a message board....OK.

One time when I was young we were at a cabin at a lake somewhere with some other people and their kids. Me and the other kid, a boy, went down to the lake to check it out. He caught some fish and took his knife and cut off all their fins and then let them go in the lake with the blood streaming out of them. I cried and ran back to the cabin.

I wonder what that kid is doing today? It traumatized me. I'm way too sensitive But I feel sick right now just thinking about it.

Guess it was the same way John Kerry voted for the funding before he voted against the funding...

However they'll word and spin it so that it sounds something like "Liberal Intuition".
