A water-line break on the second floor of the Prudential Tower crippled the 52-story skyscraper’s air conditioning and elevator service - and touched off a flood that forced several firms and thousands of workers to evacuate the Boston landmark.
More than 50 Boston firefighters were called to the Prudential Tower about 10:45 yesterday morning as thousands of gallons of water gushed from a broken water-line fitting on the second floor of the building. The leak flooded the second floor, washed down stairwells and elevator shafts, and then soaked through first-floor ceilings, leaving several inches of water in the lobby and spilling out onto the mall outside, said Boston Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald. |
