For those who know anything about what is happening in East Asia (and has been happening for the last few millenia) knows that the monolithic societies that have co-existed for centuries could from some perspectives make the people of just about any European culture look like barbarians who paint their faces with blue dye.
For those who think that ultra nationalism is the realm of 20th Century Europeans or those in the Middle East who have cultures just as ancient as the people of East Asia, heres an interesting article about what lies under the surface: http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news...137_27619.html Let’s Get Even With Japan By Oh Young-jin Assistant Managing Editor It should be treated as nothing less than a declaration of war against the rest of the world. The choice of weapon in this war started by Japan is not guns, missiles or atomic bombs, but a collective sense of determination emulating that of Jewish hunters pursuing those responsible for the Holocaust. Let's start with a fact check. Flaunting repeated calls for moderation, Japan on Monday said that it would include its official claim of Dokdo, Korea's easternmost islets, in new teaching manuals for primary and secondary school students. Why so big a fuss? Well, by putting this latest Japanese provocation into historical context the answer becomes apparent. In the run-up to and during the Second World War, the imperial Japanese army invaded and conquered much of Asia as part of an effort to create a Japanese utopia in which they were the chosen people, and everyone else was subservient to them, a hierarchical society ruled by their emperor. There were many rapes of Nanking not only in China but also Korea, as well as the killing of hundreds of thousands of innocent people and a systematic exploitation of the region. Many young Asian men were drafted into the imperial army and decimated on battlefields as part of a war that was not theirs. Young girls were kidnapped and forced to work as sex slaves in military brothels. Recently, some of those young girls, now grandmothers, have emerged from years of living in shame to confront Japan about its past misdeeds. However, the Japanese government has ignored demands that it take responsibility, saying that the issue was settled through a payment made to the Korean government in the 1960s. For westerners, it is worth recalling that Japan attacked Pearl Harbor and gave Americans what FDR aptly called the ``day of infamy.'' In the ensuing Pacific War, more GI's were killed than that of the Iraq campaign and 9/11 terror attack combined. However hard it may be to say or even think, I agree with historians who claim that the two atom bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nakasaki probably saved many lives by bringing the conflict to a quick end, albeit in such a tragic way. Even with this still fresh in the minds of many Japanese, a look at modern Japan is disappointing. There is no sense of shame in the collective mind of the Japanese, something evident in the German psyche. Is it because Germans lost two wars, while Japan only lost one? Or maybe because Japan was nursed back to health under American intensive care rather than slapped with the Treaty of Versaille. Or does Japan's pacifist constitution make many believe that the feral beast in Japan has been domesticated forever? History is important because it serves as a reminder of past mistakes and helps prevent similar ones being made. In this sense, the latest Japanese claim to Dokdo may be looked at in years to come as the seed that led to new generations of Japanese having an inaccurate sense of history, perhaps encouraging them to repeat the actions of their forefathers without worrying about the ramifications. Therefore, this might not be an isolated issue that only affects Korea but one that could tie up the rest of the world into an even bigger knot. With Japan the aggressor in this war of history, a two-pronged campaign to defeat it is needed. First, at the first point of contact, Korea should take a stand. Its first mission is to get itself ready for a long war of attrition, meaning that it should refrain from reacting to every action and comment made by Tokyo. Secondly, politicians must not assume that Japan will change and behave. For the rest of the world, it should be kept in mind that Korea is the first line of defense and offense, and that if it crumbles, it would soon be the turn of other countries. For starters, let's try to derail Japan's bid for a permanent seat on the U.N. Security Council. |

North Korea would use nuclear weapons in a 'merciless offensive'
Associated Press Tuesday, 9 June 2009 North Korea today said it would use nuclear weapons in a "merciless offensive" if provoked — its latest bellicose rhetoric apparently aimed at deterring any international punishment for its recent atomic test blast. Article Here |

As you go to work each day, little do you realize the impact that these 3 powers have on the world.
Everyone knows about the NorK's rocket capabilities, but few know where they actually got it from. LINK HERE ![]() 300,000 pages of intelligence. Individuals in the Chinese aviation industry began sending Chung “tasking” letters as early as 1979. Over the years, the letters directed Chung to collect specific technological information, including data related to the Space Shuttle and various military and civilian aircraft. Between 1985 and 2003, Chung made multiple trips to the PRC to deliver lectures on technology involving the Space Shuttle and other programs, and during those trips he met with officials and agents of the PRC government. Did not report his foreign travel to Boeing as required. Chung and PRC officials exchanged letters that discussed cover stories for Chung’s travel to China and recommended methods for passing information, including suggestions that Chung use Chi Mak to transmit information. The indictment describes a May 2, 1987 letter from Gu Weihao, an official in the Ministry of Aviation and China Aviation Industry Corporation, which discussed the possibility of inviting Chung’s wife, who is an artist, to visit an art institute so that Chung could use the cover of traveling with his wife as an excuse to travel to the PRC. And if you think that the Germans or even the British wouldnt spy on the US, take a read of the real life story of Comrade J, where author Peter Earley sets out how there were German ambassadors to the UN who expressed open hatred of the US and showed a willingness to cooperate with the then Russian intelligence head in Manhattan as recently as a decade ago. Incredible. I wonder what will happen in the Chung case or whether anyone had even heard about it from the MSM or elsewhere. |

![]() As Sergei often mentions, the job of an SVR intelligence officer is not to spy, but to acquire and handle spies. Sergei stated that both as a KGB officer and a SVR officer he had three main targets: the United States, NATO, and China. Getting people to give information, including intelligence, about the United States seemed relatively easy if the SVR operative could first establish that the potential informant simply disliked the United States. That fact seemed to provide the major motivation for the long list of code-named sources in both the Canadian and the U.S. sections. In the Canadian section, the reader encounters ARTHUR, SEMIAN, LEZAR, ILYA, KIRILL and ALADDEN. KIRILL returns in the U.S. section and has his code name changed to KABAN. Additionally, in the US section, Sergei discusses the information the SVR received from KOSACK, a Turkish counselor, MONK, an Iranian diplomat, SILVESTER, a Swedish diplomat, COUNSEL, a German diplomat, PROFESSOR, a Polish diplomat, PHOENIX, a Finnish diplomat, and SAM, an American diplomat. As it turns out, the SVR soon realized that SAM was probably an FBI agent since he did not provide any useful information, so the Russians decided to credit him with information in order to be able to claim they had successfully recruited an American. In the U.S. section, Sergei discusses the disinformation program the SVR ran in order to create the fear of a “nuclear winter” and the role various NGOs played to help propagate this disinformation. Sergei also described how the SVR skimmed about half a billion dollars off the UN's Oil for Food program. It all happened in and around Turtle Bay. |

From the Guardian
The Chinese government demanded a documentary about exiled Uigher leader Rebiya Kadeer be dropped from Australia's largest film festival in a personal phone call to its director, it has emerged. TV Story with the documentary maker here RICHARD MOORE, DIRECTOR, MELBOURNE FILM FESTIVAL: I got a call from a fairly strident Miss Chen at the Chinese consulate here in Melbourne who proceeded to tell me that I should a) withdraw the film from the festival and b) that I had to justify our action including the film in the festival program. I wonder if Hitler ever telephoned Chaplin and said "Please dont make a film about me, please!". This is farcical! I wonder if the director in this case told them to go jump over the Three Gorges Dam, or something more fruity? |

Federal prosecutors accused the 73-year old man engineer of using his 30-year career at Boeing Co. and Rockwell to steal 300,000 pages of sensitive documents, including papers on the U.S. space shuttle and a booster rocket. Prosecutors said investigators found papers stacked throughout Chung's house that included sensitive information about a fueling system for a booster rocket—documents that Boeing employees were ordered to lock away at the close of work each day. They said Boeing invested $50 million in the technology over a five-year period. What motivated his conduct? THIS? According to the federal indictment, the Chinese were eager for his help. “We are all moved by your patriotism,” Professor Chen Lung Ku of the Harbin Institute of Technology wrote back in September 1979. “We’d like to join our hands together with the overseas compatriots in the endeavor for the construction of our great socialist motherland.” |
