Default Bin Laden KILLED in U.S. military operation
Military Times salutes the dedication of our troops and their families leading up to President Obama's announcement that bin Laden was killed during a military operation in Pakistan. Although the mission is far from over, let's join together in sending our congratulations downrange for a job well done.

They dumped it by mistake when trying to move it to the "In the news" section. They're trying to recover it from a backup. At least that's what the admin posted in a thread where I asked about it earlier today (which is also gone now).

I'm not really sure how to take it and I already thought of the victims and families of vicitms of 9/11. It will never bring back their loved ones. It will never heal the wounds of those who were first responders or those who made it out of the building. I would've rathered we 'enhanced interrogated' his ass a little bit. Plus he wasn't even operationally in charge of Al Qaeda. He was more of a figurehead and now he's a martyr. It's justice but no closure.

I think it's a good job done overall by those who actually pulled the trigger and the intel work that went into it. But it doesn't end the "war on terror" or whatever PC thing it's called.

This is nothing less than great news. Lets make this plain and simple though...the US military & CIA deserve all the credit here. The only thing our president did here was saying "YES". I have a feeling this will be the cornerstone of his reelection effort.

You may be correct in this prediction. To his credit though, he did a pretty decent job of apoliticizing his speech last night.

Forget politics, conspiracy theories and the rest of that insanity for a while. (Yes I have a few questions too but there will be plenty of time for them later.) One of the most inhuman monsters since Adolph Hitler has finally been brought to justice. This is a long-awaited day for Americans and all freedom-loving people around the world to celebrate so let's just enjoy it! Congratulations to the military and intelligence heroes who made it happen!

This is awesome! It only took 5 replies for the POTUS-bashing to start. Forget the SEALs, 49erfan is my new hero.

How I wish I could see those Navy Seals bust in and "clean."

Makes me grow a big rubbery one.

Joseph Stalin was 10 times worse than Adolf Hitler.....and had Osama Bin Laden been practicing for his PT test, he woulda never been caught!

What do you expect? I watched the same speach everyone else did. "Under my direction", "I", "Me" etc, etc. The only direction or command he gave out was the word 'YES'. The CIA and military deserve ALL the credit. Mark my words, this be his campaign for 2012. My 2 minutes of celebration are over. I'm far more concerned with our economy and $14+ trillion national debt.

I bet it rankles you a lot that he actually carried out a campaign promise! Seriously, so what? Yes he was only a cog in the machine, but we can't deny he was a contributor to the infrastructure allowing this to happen. This news will eventually pass, we've still got all of these military campaigns going on in the midst of a drawdown and I sincerely doubt we've seen the last act of terror. That other stuff you mentioned there will still be an issue tomorrow and the next day when our collective sigh of relief is over.

You want Obama out of office? Find someone to defeat him with better policy, not put themselves out there like idg'its dropping 'F' bombs in their campaign slogans and trying to prove birthing documents were falsified. Never much cared for our current Commander in Chief, but today is a significant day and it happened on his watch. It won't make a single lick of difference come the next election as people have a couple more years to prove or disprove himself as an effective leader.

The CIA and military deserve every bit of credit they are being given and more.

Though if you think Obama simply said "Yes, okay"....then I can only assume you've never held a leadership position in your life.

Is it really that hard to just once give the President credit for something done well?

Was just listening to Hannity who is reporting that Obama turned down the original plan which was for the AF to drop a couple JDAMs on the building because he wanted to ensure we'd get the DNA evidence of his death, etc. Bottom line is it is the Pres final call on what and when to do...

Hell, even Hannity is praising the President on this one!

I'm not giving him entire credit because the entire process that led to this capture/kill started well before Obama was even a thought on anyone's mind as president. If ANYONE deserves credit for this it is the intelligence community for tracking him down and then the Navy SEALs and CIA who put the bullets in his body. That's it. He has kept the same strategies in place that Bush had, the same military personnel, the same SECDEF until July, etc. So he really didn't change anything in that aspect. He just continued it on.

I think he's proven to be a so-so leader so far. But you know he's going to use this as part of his reelection.
