I keep seeing news articles saying they are not sure any laws were broken... if she is not prosecuted along with her mother for assisting in this disgusting behavior it is like declaring open season on adopted children. Hopefully the majority of the adoptive parents out there would never dream of doing this, but those few who may be inclined would have no legal repercussions to worry about.

I did not follow the whole thread, however I just would like to send this link that I was reading today on a German newslink :
Russia will stop all the adoption proceedings with the USA.. sorry but the translation link would not come up in english ... The adoptive mother from Tennessee had declared that it had received from the Russian orphanage, the boy's prior false information about the condition of the child. On Thursday of last week, the boy went back without any monitoring by plane to Moscow. They give the child back because of his severe mental problems and violence, the mother said in a letter which bore the boy with him. The case caused an outcry in Russia for the rebellion. Bilateral agreements to monitor adoption should be discussed with a U.S. delegation in Moscow on a possible bilateral adoption agreement in the coming days, said the Russian Foreign Ministry. "Russia is convinced that contains only one such agreement, the effective instruments for the Russian and U.S. authorities to monitor the living conditions of adopted Russian children, will ensure that repetition of such tragedies do not," said the spokesman of the Foreign Ministry. Abuse and deaths of adopted children in the U.S. In recent years, in Russia again demands, according to a suspension of adoptions with the U.S., after several of abuse and deaths had become known among adopted children. Last year, according to the Russian Health and Ministry of Education more than 1,800 children were adopted from Russia I think this is ridiculous and it turns into a political war ... I have very high respect for this country , it looks like when you are devoted to help in the end you will be punished ... |

Yeah, that will do wonders to a kid's mind...
New World's Worst Mother Sends Her Adopted Child Back to Russia Alone - Russia - Gawker A 7-year-old who'd been adopted by a woman in Tennessee was sent back to the Motherland—by himself—earlier this week with a note explaining he had psychological problems and she'd been deceived by the adoption agency. ![]() |

I was just reading that, and the implications this has on other adoptions.

Yeah, that will do wonders to a kid's mind... after the week i've had at work, i'm quite glad she didn't give him an overdose of methadone, diphenhydramine, morphine, or rat poison...intentional pediatric poisonings are on a rise and it makes work very sucky. |

She didn't send him back to the orphanage or anything... this is just as though she drove a few miles from her home and kicked him out of the car. Note or no note, sending a 7 yr old out alone to fend for themselves is child abuse. There are systems available here she could have taken advantage of, including giving up her parental rights. That would have put the kid in "the system", but that's better than alone in Russia. What if immigration didn't discover this? That kid was at risk of just disappearing, being taken by anyone.
This woman should be blacklisted from ever adopting a child. |

I was joking, but on a serious note-these adoptions from russia have been a mess for years and should be stopped. Basically anyone who can't get a kid through legitimate channels ends up with one of these russian kids who are kookier than cocoa puffs from years of abuse in the russian foster system. One common trait a lot of the boys have is pretty f'd up... they all tend to smash their genitals by closing doors and windows onto them. I know it sounds wacky, but you should look up some of these cases. Nutty.

Basically anyone who can't get a kid through legitimate channels ends up with one of these russian kids. Unfortunately, a lot of sterling people can't find an American kid to adopt. My brother and his wife, both West Point Grads with excellent records of charitable service, spent five years trying to adopt a child from the U.S. before turning to the Philippines. Russia, Philippines, and especially Guatemala are all essentially baby mills. |

I'd probably rephrase that one part (although the rest of your post is correct). |

if they are willing to adopt a non-white baby there are quite a few. Domestic adoptions often require that the adoptive parents maintain a relationship with the birth mother, however.
wasn't there a story last year about a state that created an amnesty for child abandonment and people were driving from hundreds of miles away to leave their teenagers? It's hardly an un-heard of phenonmenon. and I don't get the frenzy that she put him on a PLANE alone. I mean, it's probably the form of transportation where the kid would get into the least trouble, and be least likely to wander off on his own. Not to minimize it but there are far more horrifying cases of people abusing their own flesh and blood every day. |

They'd attempted to adopt a 4-5 year old domestically prior to that (african American) and ran into all manner of problems, from social workers essentially derailing the process because they wanted to place him with a "black family" to the murky issue of the mother re-claiming him, the father suddenly turning up, grandparents, aunts and uncles contesting the procedure, etc. |

does this woman have any other children, either bio or adopted?
if she does, imagine the message that sends to the other kids: when you have a difficult problem instead of your parents & family gathering together to help & support you, you get sent away. it may be a simplistic way of looking at it, but that is how another young child in that house could see it. |
