LAHORE: President Pakistan Muslim League-N Nawaz Sharif on Saturday said defiance of court verdicts is tantamount to undermining the basis of democracy, Geo News reported.

In a statement issued here, Nawaz Sharif termed honouring of court decisions as an essential factor for strengthening democratic system and Constitutional organs.

"Muslim League is resolute towards ensuring implementation on these verdicts," he asserted.

He said the attitudes of elected rulers must be distinct in comparison to dictatorial regimes.

Nawaz described today's supremacy of the Constitution, independent judiciary, effective media and the right of the people to elect or reject rulers as fruits of sacrifices rendered over a long period of time and that these fruits cannot be put at stake for anyone's personal gain.
